Poshest children’s name’s you’ve heard?

My DS is due to start school in Sept and we recently met his soon to be classmates at an intro session. I have never heard so many stereotypically posh names in one group of people in my life! (The school is close to a very wealthy village…that we don’t live in sadly!) there was an Arabella, a Tarquin, a Jaygo, a Henrietta. So that’s what inspired this thread…what do you consider the top 5 poshest names you’ve ever heard of?

Jacob Rees-Mogg’s children’s names:

Alfred Wulfric Leyson Pius
Thomas Wentworth Somerset Dunstan
Peter Theodore Alphege
Anselm Charles Fitzwilliam
Mary Anne Charlotte Emma
Sixtus Dominic Boniface Christopher

And his wife is Helena Anne Beatrix Wenworth Fitzwilliam.

These surely take the cake by far.

Just God Awful, just like Daddy Boy.

Antonia
Jemima
Cecily
Verity
Imogen

Everybody wants to be posh.
I’m sure the Tarquins of this world have the resilience to deal with some inverse snobbery.😉

Years ago I had a customer called Persephone and her surname was something like Jones or Davies.

Jaygo isn't posh. It's just an unusual spelling of Jago which is the Cornish variant of James.

And Iago which is Spanish, Tiago in Portugal, Giacomo in Italy and Seamus in Ireland, and Jacob which is the Hebrew/Latin version with its own variants, etc.

Cornelius
Vincent
Kenneth

I can’t hear the name Kenneth without picturing the gay barber from the TV series Benidorm.

Funnywonder · 14/07/2025 11:37

Laughing at Jonty. In NI that is about as far away from posh as you can get. ‘Oi Jonty!’ is guldered across building sites up and down the country🤣 DP’s dad was a builder and he worked with one regularly and another one (an electrician) on odd occasions. And there was a Jonty who helped screw up our loft conversion, but that’s another story.

Edited to add - Oh, is Jonty a posh girl’s name?

My neighbour's DD is Persephone, Percy for short. Cute!

Someone once told me that really posh people give their kids pet names, and their pets human names. I thought it total nonsense, but then I shortly after met a posh couple, who's daughters were called Domino, Tabby and Perdy, and their dogs and horses were all called things like Charlotte, Toby and Roberta 🤣

I've never met another example like that, but the two things occurring so close together has convinced me that there's definitely a strong argument for the prosecution.

I used to know a guy called Kenneth Kennedy. I thought the name was really grandaddyish and didn't fit him because he was hot as hell.

I know a Sooty. No idea what her original name is as she's always known by that. I'm not in a position to ask!

Apparently loathes them! But you know he’s so proud that they all reek of money and privilege!
