Tooth extraction agony after a week

Posting here for traffic…..after a couple of weeks of toothache I had an upper molar extracted last Monday. It wasn’t pleasant - lots of tugging and wiggling. By Tuesday afternoon, I could talk without being in pain. I feel like I have to keep my tongue over the extraction area or it’s too sore.

Dentist gave me metronidazole on Thursday but by Friday the swelling had got worse so following her instructions went to A and E. Dentist had said it wasn’t dry socket. I was seen by a max fax consultant at the hospital who agreed and gave me Co Amoxiclav to take along side it.

I’ve been taking some kind of abx since Thursday and I am still in agony. I can’t talk, eat or drink. The only drinks I’m having is when I take my tablets. I’ve lost 11lbs which is crazy.

I guess what I’m asking is if anyone else has been through this and has it got better? I go away on two weeks for a huge family holiday and I’m getting worried about it. TIA

Did you get it xrayd? Could there be some root fragment left? Or maybe a fracture to the jaw? My first thought would have been dry socket. I had that after a wisdom tooth extraction and couldn't open my mouth for a fortnight. I could only just about manage wet weetabix which I had to have through a straw

Have you tried salt mouth washes to aid the healing process.
I’ve also used arnica tablets before with tooth problems.

im in the middle of a huge restoration project on my teeth so am literally feeling your pain

I had dry socket recently and clove oil dabbed into the cavity was a godsend. I appreciate you have had dry socket ruled out, but the numbing properties of that stuff were amazing

There’s nothing like it is there. Yeah, I’ve done loads of salt water washes. I look into arnica. Thank you. Hope you get better soon too
