Did you wash the fabric of new pushchair before use (newborn)?

Hello

I'm due in a few days and trying to wash the final bits that need to be washed - for some reason I'd forgotten about the fabric of the pram bassinet/carrycot which I guess has been sitting in a warehouse so probably could do with a wash before a newborn goes in it!

I found washing instructions online (says it's fully machine washable) but just wanted to sense check whether others did this! I'm sure lots will say they didn't and no obvious effects but trying to keep everything as chemical free as possible when he/she is tiny! :)

Thanks!

I didn’t wash anything, let alone the pram covers

Bitzee · 13/07/2025 20:15

No, didn’t wash anything though, there’s really no need.

No.

I didn’t when it was brand new for my first but I washed it for my second because it had been in the attic for ages. Do what you’re comfortable with, if it’s going to worry you then just wash it :)

No - I think we might have washed the carrycot mattress cover but that would have been it. While the weather's good you could give it an airing in the garden if you have one?

Sunaquarius · 13/07/2025 20:24

No

Probably more important to ‘off-gas’ or air out the fabric. Well the whole pram really. In the fresh air and sunshine.

NoEffingWay · 13/07/2025 20:26

I wouldn’t. I was paranoid as with DS and this didn’t cross my mind. When he was about 18 months I bought a mcclaren from a car boot sale for a tenner and lobbed him straight in it, as sense had returned!

DappledThings · 13/07/2025 20:27

I washed a few clothes when DC1 was newborn because I'd read you were meant to. Never occurred to me to wash anything else and for DC2 I didn't even wash clothes.

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 13/07/2025 20:28

No

Figgygal · 13/07/2025 20:36

I didn't even wash their clothes so no

Funderthighs · 13/07/2025 21:27

No, I wouldn’t wash it.

notnorman · 13/07/2025 22:43

No you might damage it or shrink it

JustAMum35 · 13/07/2025 22:45

No, I didn’t wash ours. I did buy sheets for the pram bassinet mattress though and washed those.
And I did make sure the bassinet and mattress were well aired before DS arrived 😊

DeliciouslyBaked · 13/07/2025 22:46

Are you using a pushchair seat or a bassinet? I washed all the clothes / bedding and then popped a moses basket sheet (washed) over the bassinet mattress (not washed). Was very helpful as DD1 was super refluxy and using the sheet made it easier to keep on top of the cleaning.

Edit to add - yes, sorry just reread your post. Just put a washed sheet over the carrycot mattress.

Bugahug · 13/07/2025 22:58

Never washed anything unless it was 2nd hand.
