Do your DC Play Computer Games?

Not hand held console games on the Switch or Xbox or whatever, but computer games on the laptop or desktop with a mouse and keyboard?

If they do, what games do they play?

Yes, lots of different ones. Why do you ask?

I'd like to encourage DS away from the iPad/Switch to sitting properly at a desk and to overcome his fear of computers!

But I don't really know where to start, so wondering what other kids his age play. DH has a couple but they're too complicated for him.

If you are looking for recommendations you need to say how old your children are.

How old is he? I'd really recommend a steam account to download old and new games - and get them in the sales and bundles

DD has played point and click adventure games from the 90s. She loved Day of the Tentacle when she was around 8 or 9

She's played the Sims since she was 7, still does.
She uses her laptop for Minecraft and Roblox

She's played god sims like Two Point Hospital and Parkitect aged 5 to 8 ish

Snuggletruck, Lemmings and Toki Tori which is are platform games she played when she was around 5

She's enjoying Headliners, Ninja Pizza Girl and Portal at the moment, she's 14 now

True! I need to read back what I've read. They're teenagers. DS is 15 but has some learning difficulties, on the Switch he plays mainly Minecraft and Lego, both the new Zelda. DD is 13 and I think she's starting to get bored with both Minecraft and Lego which she plays with DS; she's done both the Zelda's all the way through (unlike DS who hasn't completed either of them, he just runs around the world doing his own thing), Hogwarts Legacy.

I’m not sure if it even a thing but my boys used to play Age of Empires as kids. One is now a history teacher and swears the game was what started his love of history!

HeadWall · 14/07/2025 21:13

Oh, I think DD would love one of those age of empires! I don't think we can play it though, as we have a Mac 😩

If anyone likes Age of Empires but would prefer to build or storm massive castles, then Stronghold and Stronghold Crusader are excellent.

Avoid Age of Empires 3 - it’s rubbish. The first and second games are classics.
