What's your dog doing in the heatwave?

Ddog is not very happy about the lack of walks or ball throwing, currently picking new spot every few mins in the shade to mope and sigh loudly in because I'm sunbathing and hates to be at least 1cm away from my side at all times. We've done snuffle mat for dinner, a few enrichment games but will still mope til we take her a walk which obviously we can't right now.
Making me feel guilty but also ruining my joyfulness at the weather because I'm feeling bad.
There's a lake nearby which we'll go to later to let ddog swim, but the car is a million degrees which will be intolerable, why do dogs make you feel bad about everything, 😂
She routinely makes me feel bad for WFH, or just not petting her 24/7

He’s very fed up at not being walked for the last few days but he has access to a large, shady garden. He generally prefers to be where we are (DH works from home so he’s rarely left alone) and will follow us about but if he’s very hot he will go in the downstairs bathroom which has no windows and never gets warm. It’s tiled in there so he lies on the floor.

Tomorrow early morning will be cool enough for a good walk.

We are walking very early and very late. Rest of the day if I am home she is in and out the garden. I top the paddling pool up daily and she takes herself off for a splash about as and when needed.

She is however miserable as sin at the no running about and no ball chasing. She has taken to carrying her current favourite ball everywhere and looking sadly at me.

Mine is half show cocker. He can’t have bones as all he does is bury them. Usually in my bed. Things you don’t want to find under your pillow….

FoxRedPuppy yes we get this too. But wow betide you if you come within sniffing distance of her bone, she's not like this with cheese or alternative bones/treats or toys, just bones, I genuinely think she'd rip my throat out if I tried to take it away, so we've had to ban them too.

We've been up walking at 6am, trying to get a 30 minute walk in as our older boy has literally just been diagnosed with mitral valve disease. He's utterly pissed off and miserable, and I'm obsessively watching him pant thinking is it the heat or his heart........ younger girl isn't bothered remotely and has taken to lying in the downstairs toilet with a tiled floor which has taken a few people by surprise!

I'm so over it, I've been trying to get an air con unit for days to keep one room cool for my boy Sad

When mine does get frustrated, as well as bringing me his favourite toys, he also likes to sit looking right in my face and breathe heavily on me. I brush his teeth daily but...

Why do dogs make you feel bad about everything?
It's all in the eyes, OP. One of mine switches on the RSPCA "Christmas Appeal advert" eyes at will, either when sitting outside the shop and pleading with the butcher for some bones (to the point that she is known for it...) or when she thinks that something is unjust in her opinion (see below).

DDog1 has put in a formal complaint, as she is very upset that I haven't been taking her to work with me. The fact that it is too hot is irrelevant... as is the fact that the cows are now indoors because of the excessive heat and lack of shade in the fields (so DDog1's excellent herding skills are not required). She is one of those weirdos that actually seems to like sunshine, though... to the point that 95% of her regular loo breaks involves sunbathing on the path by the gate. However, she is perked up regularly by being served her favourite kind of dog biscuits. Anything else gets THE LOOK and is hoovered up by DDog2 instead, as she eats everything except offal.

DDog2 continues to NEED to take a ball out into the garden with her. Despite this, she doesn't seem to have spent as much time running around and trying to entice sophisticated DDog1 to play. However, she has been busy chasing the occasional butterfly (but fails to catch them, courtesy of the ball in her mouth), and crashing out on the lawn.

After the first year that we ended up baking in our new house, I put privacy/anti-glare film up on our windows. This means that DDog1 and I spend less quality time crashed out in the windowless and cold hallway, because all of the other rooms were too hot! It also means that our nosy neighbour cannot snoop through our windows when we're minding our own business.

Alternating between the fan and paddling pool! Long evening walk with streams

Being an absolute pain in the bum refusing to listen as to why he cannot go out at his usual time. Just had him out now for half hour and he had an hours walk in the shade first thing and some playing in the house this afternoon. Has finally flopped. Think I’ll leave him downstairs tonight as it’s cooler.
