2 duvets one bed?

The weather has made me decide it’s time to try this. I’ve been thinking about it for a while but never done anything beyond that. We have a super king bed. DH would literally sleep all year with a sheet. I like to be a bit warmer. Not overly warm but for me it’s more about the weight and feeling secure if that doesn’t sound daft. We have an all year round duvet that I like a blanket on top of. At the moment with this weather we are just using the duvet cover but I have a blanket to pull over me during the night if I get gold. Anyway, if we do this, would you recommend 2 single duvets or 2 double duvets? I see you can get coverless duvets which might be a good idea.

We do this. Single duvets x 2 on a king size bed. I think double duvets might be too much overlap?

DisplayPurposesOnly · 13/07/2025 08:22

I would prefer a double, personally. It's really up to you and your husband what you'd each prefer (you don't have to have the same).

Nitgel · 13/07/2025 08:23

Yes it's great. We have 2 singles. Mine is long as my feet hang out of standard size duvets.

We have 2 singles on a super king. It’s wonderful.

We have 2 singles (on a normal double bed). I found the coverless duvet was really hot (but very light), but my OH uses one and likes it. We both sleep much better now - always feels a bit odd when we go away and are under one shared cover again.

PeonyBulb · 13/07/2025 08:24

It’s your bed so do whatever suits you

Handmethegunandaskmeagain · 13/07/2025 08:24

Two singles. We’ve got two European size singles on ours, bit wider than uk singles, and they overlap a bit sometimes. I wouldn’t do two doubles, and I’m the person who always sizes up a quilt usually e.g king size duvet on double bed.

Claymoreiron · 13/07/2025 08:24

its A great idea. Common in Scandanavia IME

SandrenaIsMyBloodType · 13/07/2025 08:32

I have been considering this because we had 2 singles recently on holiday and we both slept noticeably better.
We have a super king sized bed and I haven’t actually done anything about it because I would have to shell out for new bedding and I suspect I will be dissatisfied with how it looks.
I know it shouldn’t matter and I’m not someone who fusses over “dressing” the bed. There’s not a throw or an extra cushion in sight currently. Just a neat and tidy white duvet cover. If you currently have two separate singles on your bed, are there any tricks to keeping it looking neat? There’s no way I’m going to bother myself with a giant bedspread thing but I’m very open to less unwieldy suggestions

We have one of those duvets where you have two layers that you can fold together.

husband has the thin summer layer all year
i have the second layer, folded in half and stitched (so three layers) to my side. I then have a pretty top quilt that goes over the top.

DongDingBell · 13/07/2025 08:34

They don't have the be the same size.

I would recommend at least one double duvet on the bed, for times when you do want to snuggle up. Do you have any spare duvets in the house you could try it out with before buying new bedding - even if it means a Spiderman and pink flowers combination for a few days!

Same here, two singles and each of us chooses which weight we want at any one time. We have “winter” and “summer” duvets - DH has summer all year round and I vary. We’ve had this setup for years and both sleep better for it. Hate it when we stay in a hotel and have to share!

BellaTheDarkOverlord · 13/07/2025 08:39

We have a super king bed. Dh has a double duvet. I have a super king duvet 🤣 Definitely way too much. We’re going back to a king size bed shortly and we’ll do 2 double duvets on that instead.

Kissedbyfire1 · 13/07/2025 08:40

@SandrenaIsMyBloodType with regard to dressing the bed or making it look neat, we fold ours lengthwise like the Scandis do, or fold into quarters and put neatly at the bottom of the bed.

EveryOtherNameTaken · 13/07/2025 08:49

We have 2 single duvets on a double bed. So much better all round.

Noseyoldcow · 13/07/2025 09:19

We did a trial with the kids’ single duvets when we first had a superking sized bed and found them too small, they left our backsides hanging out and getting cold, so we have 2 standard doubles. But having slept just fine with really good quality single duvets abroad in a freezing room, I think it depends on the drape of the duvets - the cheapo ones we trialled didn’t drape at all well. Either way, your own duvet, plenty of room in the bed and earplugs are my secret to a successful marriage!

FinallyMovingHouse · 13/07/2025 09:38

We've had two single duvets on a big bed for years. DH (naturally cold) used to end up wrapped like a burrito our double duvet and meanwhile, me (naturally an icicle) would end up with nothing. Single duvets for couples are a lifesaver!

We have a super king and both have super king duvets. I like to wrap myself up (in the winter)

Currently just using a cotton bed sheet and my fiancé is using nothing!

Ceebeegee · 13/07/2025 09:41

We have two doubles. Started it because I'm a cover hogger in my sleep. It works really well.

FinallyHere · 13/07/2025 11:48

We have two doubles on a super king bed. Totally normal where I grew up. DH wasn’t keen until tried it in a hotel and loved it.

Now wouldn’t do it any other way.
