Don’t want my neighbours to get another dog

I am surrounded by dogs. Neighbour 1’s house is attached to mine (semi). They have 3 dogs all of which bark at varying degrees during the day. Neighbour 2 has 2 dogs, which I never ever hear. Neighbour 3 has 1 dog that lives there and another that their son leaves there all day whilst they are all at work. That one is the worst and barks quite a lot when it is there, which tbf is much less since pandemic. Neighbour 4 has one dog which barks fairly regularly.

the issue I have isn’t with a particular dog as I wouldnt say any dog is particularly excessive but between all of them I can always hear at least one dog barking and they set each other off. Neighbour 2 told me today they are soon getting another puppy so will have 4 dogs!! I had to pretend to be excited for them.

I shouldn’t complain because we all make noise and I have 2 kids who can be noisy in the garden BUT it’s not all day every day. They are at school during the day and at their dad’s EOW.

but I can almost ALWAYS hear at least one bloody dog. The other night there was a dog barking outside at 11.30pm. I mean ffs why can’t the owners be considerate!! Just want to moan really 😭

You need to move then.
I have a large family of dogs and the neighbours and their kids make far more noise than my dogs.
If you can't move, buy some earplugs!

IMissSparkling · 12/07/2025 23:01

I would HATE this, cannot stand barky dogs. I would honestly have to move.

Redrosesposies · 12/07/2025 23:04

Why did you have to pretend to be excited for them. Why couldn't you just say you are sick of the noise of all their dogs barking all the time?

@RedrosesposiesOP says she never hears neighbour 2’s dogs!

Sorry that was a typo, it’s neighbour 1 who is getting a puppy

It's their business. Move house then. You actually sound like one of our neighbours. 🤣There's 12 houses here all in a square. Only one house doesn't have a dog but only moved in recently. She's taken an adversity to one dog and complained about it barking.......how she can tell which one it is nobody can work out (as there are 13 between the other 11 homes!), but my nextdoor neighbour has had a life of hell with letters from our local authority,. threatening court action.etc!.

@cadburyegg we have 3 dogs and do not them bark apart from briefly to respond to someone knocking on the door. I love dogs but cannot stand the sound of barking dogs that are not corrected by their owners.

Part and parcel of having neighbours I’m afraid. Your kids making noise in the garden probably irritates your neighbours too. But it’s just life. There’s been constant noise in my garden today. Dogs barking, kids playing, another house doing DIY and another cutting the grass. It hasn’t been quiet at all. It’s part of living in a community and whilst yes dogs barking can be irritating as you say no one dog is barking excessively.

TalkToTheHand123 · 25/04/2026 22:34

Children can be told to keep the noise down. Dogs can be trained to bark less. The 'it's just neighbours being neighbour's' doesn't wash. OP, there's no need to act like you are happy. You really shouldn't have. Please let them know their dogs barking annoys you.

Skybluepinky · 25/04/2026 22:46

Move.

worriedmumofgirls · 25/04/2026 23:13

It could be worse! My next door neighbour has 15 cats, and feeds numerous other cats. Our street constantly stinks of cat piss and all of our gardens are unusable!
