OMG the dyson fan is useless!!

It’s 30.4C in our room.

I have a Dyson humidifier with fan. It cost c. £400. I don’t need the humidifier although tbf its only 39% humidifity.

The fan is so rubbish!! It has a ridiculous O shape. If the bottom of the O is pointing at you, you get some air. If it’s the middle, NOTHING. There’s a huge hole where NO AIR COMES OUT. Top, very little.

You can’t adjust the height, I’ve had to bring in an office chair and lower it to the height of the bed

It doesn’t rotate, disperse the air as per the O comment above, so even with the office chair solution my face is cool and my feet are boiling.

It has no timers and is noisy, I can’t tell if when to turn off so will be waking up every 30 mins with the noise.

I use the fan to stop the mosquitoes. Countryside here near water we have loads. So with this set up my Face is fine and legs get bitten.

meanshile, my kids are happily sleeping with a £60 standing fan from Amazon. It’s on high. At the right height. Fans from the whole face … not the edges with a massive gap. It rotates. so covers whole room. And it’s on a timer to turn off after midnight when they’ll be fast asleep and don’t need the loud noise waking them.

just saying. Don’t buy one,

what else should I avoid??

This is hands down the best fan I’ve ever had. We have a massive, very hot kitchen/diner, over 10 metres long, and I can feel the cold air at the kitchen end when it’s at the other end of the room.

I have a very old Sentik pedestal fan in the living room. It works superbly! I don't have a fan on in the bedroom at night as I don't feel I actually need one. I do have the window open all day and, in addition to the main curtains, I have a blackout blind and a net curtain (the only one in the house) to help prevent the gnats from entering. I do use insect repellent though as there are two specific parts of my body which need to be protected from bites.

Come on @BooneyBeautiful you cant leave us hanging like that! Which parts? Why? So many questions!

I find Dyson generally tend to be a bit Emperors' New Clothes. I swore never to have a Dyson vacuum again after having one where I had to stop to clear the filter every few minutes. I remember when my mother was in hospital in the summer they had Dyson fans which apparently someone had donated, but really they were very little use.

I prefer the tower fans to the pedestal as it hits more of your body. Even the cheaper ones oscillate and most have a timer. Got mine from argos and tesco. Don't think I paid more than £30 each for them a couple of years ago.

LegoNinjago · 12/07/2025 17:47

OP, I have one, I agree it’s shit.

gerispringer · 12/07/2025 17:50

The Duux one was a Which best buy it’s quite and rotates up and down and has a timer.

Weerit · 12/07/2025 17:56

We have 3 Meaco fans - they are great.

Justtryingthis · 12/07/2025 18:03

£400?? I’ve just gone and picked up a portable aircon unit for £290!
My bedroom is now a delicious 19 degrees!

StasisMom · 12/07/2025 18:05

I bought a new fan yesterday, not Dyson, cost £100. Faffed around assembling, it’s being returned as worse than my actually pretty good Igenix one, which was cheapo.

Magnir · 12/07/2025 18:09

We have 2 Dyson fans and 2 air conditioners, the fans are more for if it's about 23-24 degrees or overnight after cooling with the aircon. No fans cool the air, just move it around. I like the Dyson fans, they are quiet and have a small footprint

DisforDarkChocolate · 12/07/2025 18:11

I have a £30 tower one from Argos that works perfectly.

Jeez another. It’s a humidifier too. I use the humidifier in winter a lot. Honestly some people are so quick to try to point out the village idiot…

Another vote for Meaco. We love our Meaco fans

AlannaOfTrebond · 12/07/2025 18:59

We've got 3 different models of Dyson fans and I love them. Conventional fans make me feel like I'm standing behind a jet engine, but the Dysons feel like a natural breeze. All of ours do rotate and tilt though..

A couple of weeks ago I bought the new £250 circular one that has just come out and I think how it was worth the money every single day.

I do hope your humidifier keeps you cool this evening. Because your fan certainly ain’t 🤣

I was commenting more on the price of this genius appliance that clearly doesn’t work for a heck of a lot of money.

Absolutely no need to be so rude. Do you think the heat is getting to you? head tilt?

tillyandmilly · 11/07/2025 23:16

I have the O Dyson fan it does nothing! Keeps spinning around as well and can’t stop it rotating - spent hours on forums on how to stop it rotating! Its going in the bin!

After paying such a lot for it? Contact Dyson!

Tut tut no need to be smug. For £290 you’ve probably picked up an ugly great big box with an even more ugly pipe that hangs out the window for about 8 days a year, that you then have little use for and can’t store the rest of the year round.

Come on @BooneyBeautiful you cant leave us hanging like that! Which parts? Why? So many questions!

Right foot which has a lot of neurological damage. If I get bitten there, it triggers horrendous neuropathic pain. I then have to take Zapain and Ibuprofen to help with the general pain, use an antihistamine cream and take an antihistamine tablet to relieve the inflammation from the bite, and take 40mg amitriptyline to help relieve the neuropathic pain.

I have had a mastectomy and I have no lymph nodes in my right armpit. As a result, I have to protect my right arm from any trauma. This includes not having my blood pressure taken on that arm and not having any blood taken from there either. If I don't take care of that arm, it could result in lymphoedema.

I should add that gnats absolutely adore me!

How do you feel now I have answered your question? Do you feel enlightened?

Redglitter · 13/07/2025 02:54

I bought this one a few months ago. Sits on top of my drawers pointing towards my bed. It oscillates in 2 directions, is remote controlled, has a timer 10 speeds and a mute button. It's bloody amazing

OMG the dyson fan is useless!!
Oblomov25 · 13/07/2025 07:37

I find many of the fans useless. Expensive. Just don't work.
we fortunately have air con at work too.

We have had air con fitted 20 years ago in the lounge and bedroom, but I still can feel it everywhere else, eg the kitchen.

I miss my old portable air con unit with a big tube out the door: unlike a rude pp I think they were great, storage in the garage easily, was used for many many weeks, at least 6+ weeks a year, so I do actually think it's worth it. It was very old fashioned, looked older than this one, but it was fab, and I actually enjoyed emptying the built in bucket of water at the end!

It’s Slimline.
i can’t see the pipe as err, it’s nighttime and the curtains are shut 🙄 Nor can anyone else as no one is hanging round my garden in the hours of darkness.
Being in a ‘hot phase’ of my life I will probably get lots of use from it from at least May to September.
I will store it in an outbuilding for the rest of the year.
I do hope that addresses your concerns regarding the wonderful appliance that kept me cool all night.
I have no idea why you decided to pick on my post about this, but, honestly, just leave it. There was absolutely no need for your rudeness and you’re making look self look worse with every reply.
Stay cool in this hot weather 😎 🤣🤣

We have the O shaped Dyson fan and a Shark , the Shark desktop/ cordless is far better!
