OMG the dyson fan is useless!!

It’s 30.4C in our room.

I have a Dyson humidifier with fan. It cost c. £400. I don’t need the humidifier although tbf its only 39% humidifity.

The fan is so rubbish!! It has a ridiculous O shape. If the bottom of the O is pointing at you, you get some air. If it’s the middle, NOTHING. There’s a huge hole where NO AIR COMES OUT. Top, very little.

You can’t adjust the height, I’ve had to bring in an office chair and lower it to the height of the bed

It doesn’t rotate, disperse the air as per the O comment above, so even with the office chair solution my face is cool and my feet are boiling.

It has no timers and is noisy, I can’t tell if when to turn off so will be waking up every 30 mins with the noise.

I use the fan to stop the mosquitoes. Countryside here near water we have loads. So with this set up my Face is fine and legs get bitten.

meanshile, my kids are happily sleeping with a £60 standing fan from Amazon. It’s on high. At the right height. Fans from the whole face … not the edges with a massive gap. It rotates. so covers whole room. And it’s on a timer to turn off after midnight when they’ll be fast asleep and don’t need the loud noise waking them.

just saying. Don’t buy one,

what else should I avoid??

.

What is the B and Q mega fan please? I went in there today and got a white piece of junk, it kind of works but the wrong height and not adjustable.

honeyfox · 11/07/2025 23:24

We had one too, a couple of years ago. Not the dehumidifier one. Brought it back the next day, useless.

I’ve got a Dyson fan and it’s excellent. Have you got it set right?

You’ve all made me feel much better. Like this was some kind of public benefit research message.

I no longer feel alone.

Yep, I was shocked at just how shit it was
I thought for sure I was using it wrong, but it's just pants. Crap design, doesn't make the room cool, hardly makes the space 10 inches in front of it cool!
Waste of money

How? What are we alll doing wrong?

I have a very old Sentik pedestal fan in the living room. It works superbly! I don't have a fan on in the bedroom at night as I don't feel I actually need one. I do have the window open all day and, in addition to the main curtains, I have a blackout blind and a net curtain (the only one in the house) to help prevent the gnats from entering. I do use insect repellent though as there are two specific parts of my body which need to be protected from bites.

Stelly8 · 11/07/2025 23:29

We clean ours regularly but it gives me a terrible dry throat and I hate seeing it blowing out dust. I am always annoyed at how much it cost. Wouldn’t recommend either.

Wildywondrous · 11/07/2025 23:29

We won a Dyson tower fan in an online raffle and I love it, it feels like it's blowing cool air rather than moving the hot air around like most fans do.

I expected it to be disappointing like their hair wrap but am impressed.

Extravirginolive · 11/07/2025 23:30

If you have it tilted down it's better. I set mine at 3 at night and it's perfect, quiet and cool.

It doesn’t tilt as it’s a humidifier too and has to be flat. Had an overly clever sensor that knows and cuts out when it’s not flat even if not using humidifier

That's annoying.

SleepingisanArt · 11/07/2025 23:35

We have 2 of the old Dyson cool and heat 0 fans. Brilliant! Actually cool the air rather than just move hot air around. Quiet too and just have a little remote to operate them. Daughter has the ones which replaced ours and has massive air filters on - still effective and quiet so I wonder if it's the specific model which has the problem? (Use fans downstairs as we had air con installed in our bedroom years ago and was the best decision we made!)

GleefulGiraffe · 11/07/2025 23:38

If it's a humidifier as well have you got it set to the right mode? We've got one that is a air purifier and fan and you can have it set just to purify in which case the air flow switches and you don't really get a breeze. Does the humidifier have something like that?

SwedishEdith · 11/07/2025 23:42

We had the Dyson O shaped one in a holiday appartment. Was shocked at how shit it was. Had to stack it on a pile of books to be at any useful height. Woke up with dried out eyes and a sore throat as though it had sucked out all the moisture. Plus, just very noisy.

Aprilrainagainagain · 11/07/2025 23:51

Buy the Muji fan. It's silent and very powerful

Sarah2891 · 11/07/2025 23:59

Meaco are my favourite fans. Not a ridiculous price and very quiet.

Testerical · 11/07/2025 23:08

Mosquitos don’t like mega fans. They’re light and if you point the fan directly at your exposed skin… job done. Plus, many people find the noise of fans quite soporific.

I got so used to it one summer that I had to get a white noise machine that makes the sound of a fan so I could sleep in the winter.

AnotherEmily · 12/07/2025 00:08

Mine is great.

doggydaydreams · 12/07/2025 00:12

The screwfix fan is ace

OMG the dyson fan is useless!!
dottiehens · 12/07/2025 00:15

You got the wrong Dyson fan. Mine is a lifesaver and only air con would be better. AM07 types are very good.

MidnightMeltdown · 12/07/2025 01:03

I almost bought a Dyson fan a couple of years ago but when I looked at the reviews there were a lot of bad ones, and for £400 I wasn’t willing to take the risk. Got a £50 one from Amazon instead. It’s good, but very noisy!

Jeez. Yes it has humidifier mode and fan mode. It’s on fan mode. I appreciate it was well intended but I’m not totally useless 😬

WhiskyandWater · 12/07/2025 08:46

Echo that Meaco are great, but we have an air purifier tall Dyson fan and like PP it feels like it’s cooling the air.
BUT the best thing I’ve bought was a £23 camping ceiling fan off Amazon. Put a hook in the ceiling above the bed, and it is amazing. It’s rechargable and only lasts the night if set to power 2 (of 3) but it’s seriously good.

Invisablepanic · 12/07/2025 08:50

If you want to splurge we have a Delonghi Pinguio air conditioning unit and it is fab. You have to put the hose out of the window but it lowers the room temp considerably. DH bought it a couple of years ago and I did grumble at the cost but it's so much more effective than anything else we've tried
