"I'm not far right but..." And who travels from Scotland in 'support'? Mindless thuggery indeed.

PandoraSocks · 21/07/2025 10:00

No, no placemats. They are decent law abiding British folk.

Yvette Cooper confirms there will be a national inquiry into the Battle of Orgreave

Where policemen removed their numbers, so miners had no idea if the thugs cracking their skulls open were actually officers or hired thugs ?

Or a different Orgreave ?

It's no coincidence that Forage is giving a press conference on policing and prisons today - starting at 11 am.

To mis quote Jim Royle "Law abiding citizens my arse."

PandoraSocks · 21/07/2025 10:11

Looking at the details of the attendees, Tice is essentially saying White Vangard supporters are decent law abiding British folk?

Now they just wear masks.

What’s happening at Epping is not going to stop imo. In NI, after a similar issue regarding sexual assault many locals feel pretty happy that they have got the majority of the Roma to leave.

It’s long been a classic tactic to say foreign men harrass or hurt young women, if it actually happens then this gets whipped up in minutes now thanks to social media. They aren’t very well
organized but that will change if this narrative sticks

Piggywaspushed · 21/07/2025 10:35

I sometimes would like MN to be able to time travel. The two things I'd like to see posters get knickers in a twist about are Orgreave/ miners in general, and the Sufragettes. MN has co opted the latter but actually I reckon there would be a LOT of frothing and division if the voting at 16 thread is anything to go by.

That thread is hardly a beacon of refined debate. In days gone past some commentators would have been unable to make their views known because you'd have to write to the newspapers. And even if I credited their literacy, the challenge of putting a stamp in the right place may have proved too much.

(That may sound like mere snarkiness, but having had an 18 year old approach me in the office to ask in all seriousness "where do I put the stamp ?", I am aware of how transitory a lot of our knowledge is. Merely a fleeting whisper on the breath of time ....)

Piggywaspushed · 21/07/2025 10:50

I had to teach my 21 year old about stamps recently.

Things were more complicated in Ballymena - other migrant groups of whom there are many weren't targetted - there was specific conflict between Roma drug dealers and the traditional paramilitary dealers plus competition for jobs at a local food factory mainly staffed by migrant labour

The sexual assaults were both a pretext and a last straw in a long running conflict

Braverman is going to re-write the Good Friday Agreement, Farage is going to send the worst criminals to El Salvador.

Media just nods

Notonthestairs · 21/07/2025 11:59

I'm sure Braverman will put her legal credentials to good use unilaterally changing the terms of an international agreement (the terms of which was agreed following referendums).

Farage seems to think he can pay for everything as a result of cancelling Net Zero policies - neatly overlooking the fact that most of it was intended to be paid for from private investment and which therefore wont save the government anywhere close to the amount he refers to (and has already spent several times over on his intended tax cuts).

I cant be arsed to discuss the reference to El Salvador but I'm sure it gets the far right very excited.

The British economic policy set out on the back of a fag packet is Reform's go to strategy.

bombastix · 21/07/2025 12:08

Nightingale prisons - the language is disgusting.

The issue is that we do have a large number of foreign nationals in UK prisons and we are very bad at deporting them and keeping them from returning. We don’t need to build new prisons if we manage foreign offenders more effectively.

MsJinks · 21/07/2025 12:15

Ugh and sadness at protesting at hotels. My mum’s care agency manager lived near the one set on fire last year - she didn’t dare leave her home for milk for her young children - I was so ashamed. She’s a lovely, caring lady just living her life here. As indeed are hotel occupiers and staff, whatever you think of immigration they wouldn’t be given a hotel room without an asylum claim going in and they can stay to receive the outcome perfectly legally.
I think some of the intellectually challenged thugs are shipped in to the bigger ‘events’ as they don’t have the required resources (mental or financial) to get to these places - just get sent a party ticket I think. Not generally a CT btw but can’t think of any other explanation for some attendees.

Don't forget scrapping all the diversity roles. 🙄

placemats · 21/07/2025 12:19

Nightingale prisons fan the racist views. It's whipped up hysteria. It means extra work for the police and the Home office. Do these people have no holidays or work to go to?

Forage throws a match onto the tinderbox and escapes to a holiday in Europe.

DuncinToffee · 21/07/2025 12:23

It's going to be paid for by unicorn tears, see Brexit.

The issue is that the criminal justice system is on its knees. It’s so under resourced. And the case that it’s soft on violent and sex offenders is also true. It is.

It’s also not a good story on crime committed by non UK nationals. The rates are like night and day. UK citizens are largely very law abiding- the contrast with other nationals in the UK is not good. Reform don’t need to lie about criminal justice - they can point to objective fact. The Home Office will have to set out figures by nationality soon, and it will be difficult reading.

I hope we get serious about addressing it before Reform do come in. I would be disappointed if a Labour government did not - this is about public safety

placemats · 21/07/2025 12:43

Violence against women and girls is overwhelmingly an issue within the indigenous population in the UK and Northern Ireland.

placemats · 21/07/2025 12:48

It's shocking the amount of British white males who get away with community sentences for serious CSA crimes.

Violence includes witnessing the abuse as a child and coercive financial and controlling behaviour.
