I am going on holiday in a few weeks, I've lost no weight and feel HUGE

I feel MASSIVE and am disgusted with myself and how I look. I don't feel like I will enjoy my holiday because of the way I look, I am ashamed of my weight/size. It's a beach holiday where there will be lots of slim ladies (and doubt larger too). I don't want to spend my whole time comparing myself to them ... but I know I will

Who are you going on holiday with?

parcor · 11/07/2025 14:24

friends

I am currently at my heaviest ever

Do you think your friends might be feeling the same about themselves? I know it’s hard, we love to beat ourselves up and we will never be ‘perfect’ in our own eyes but you’ll regret ruining your holiday overthinking 😊

Funderthighs · 11/07/2025 14:27

Just switch off and enjoy the holiday. You’re the same person whatever your size and your friends are holidaying with you because they enjoy your company. Have a great time.

MrsTerryPratchett · 11/07/2025 14:29

Style it out. Highlight your best features and just act like no one is watching, because they aren’t.

Forgottenmyphone · 11/07/2025 14:30

focus on packing clothes that make you feel good/which are most flattering, even if that means having a shopping spree before you go! When you’re there, avoid anything which makes you bloated.

lighteningthequeen · 11/07/2025 14:31

will you really care when you get there? I always find it quite freeing being on holiday and there being all sorts of bodies on show. Unless you’re going on an Ibiza holiday with a bunch of 20 year olds, hitting up the beach clubs etc, then I really don’t think you’ll feel different to anyone around you!

1apenny2apenny · 11/07/2025 14:31

Right OP please stop thinking negatively. You haven’t lost the weight and you are where you are. Only take clothes that you feel comfortable in, if you can afford it buy a couple of neutral pieces you feel good in, think positively. Get your nails done, buy a new lipstick - small things to make you feel more confident.

Go and enjoy your holiday.

When you get back start afresh. If you cut down gradually you’ll feel way better by Christmas.

buy some lovely beach cover ups!! Nice and light material/crochet ones, they’re always flattering, try Cupshe or Pour Moi or even Amazon for some nice ones. Accessorise with nice straw beach bag, hat, big sunglasses. All these little things make me feel better and put together. Above all, enjoy your holiday and love your body- it’s well and healthy enough to take you abroad on a lovely holiday so respect it and love it!

A well-designed cover-up solves the beach and pool lying around.

And a trip to a good swimwear shop, trying different styles, solves the 20 seconds between lounger and pool.

Oh and shit loads of fake tan, covers a multitude of sins.

verycloakanddaggers · 11/07/2025 14:51

Might help to think about how you speak about yourself. Would you tell a friend they should be ashamed of themselves?

Jellycatspyjamas · 11/07/2025 14:56

Have a look for wired swimming costumes, they make a huge difference in lifting everything a bit. Oversized floaty coverups and some fake tan. Honestly no one will be looking at you, they’re all usually thinking about their own imperfect bodies.

Glitchymn1 · 11/07/2025 14:57

How many weeks do you have? How much do you want to lose?
I’m doing intermittent fasting Michael Mosley kind of thing- I’m vegan so I can’t eat all the protein hence it’s my own variation! I’ve lost a few pound in a week.

Personally I’d do a bit of cutting back and exercise (even if you put it all back on). If you are big you’ll lose a bit and feel better in yourself. I’d also get hair and nails done to go and a spray tan and invest in some new, well fitting clothes if you can. Cover ups etc, can you splash out on a really good swimsuit?

There will be lots of people bigger than you that have oodles of confidence!

parcor · 11/07/2025 15:14

I go in around 10 days ...

I think confidence can play a massive role here. I've always tried to go with the "fake it til I make it" philosophy so even if I've felt self conscious I've ignored that and pretended I don't give a shit. It's not easy but I think you can pull it off.

I was obese but I think merrily taking my kaftan off and strolling into the pool in my swimsuit looks way better than being meek and trying to hide away and stay covered up.

I've got a different problem now as I've lost 3.5st so far (thank you Mounjaro) but am starting to get some saggy skin. But you know what? Sod it! There's something very freeing about seeing bodies of all shapes and sizes on holiday.

Do you remember what strangers look like in swimsuits? I certainly don't. Nobody will be paying any attention to you, I promise.

Get some fake tan and/or accessories and clothes that make you feel good and have a lovely time. You've already paid for the holiday so you may as well choose to enjoy yourself.

pushthebuttonnn · 11/07/2025 15:25

I've just come back from holiday and I am about 1.5 stone heavier than normal (post partum)
My stomach is the main thorn in my side!
Some things I found that helped were all all in one swimsuits with a cover up over it. I went for bright colours as I feel I look much better in them. I also got some short & shirt sets in Next with a vest top. They were nice and loose and flowy so I felt comfortable in them. Enjoy your holiday!

BoarBrush · 11/07/2025 16:30

Honestly, yes you feel shit now but when you're there you won't care. We just returned from holiday last week, I've lost loads of muscle in the past 9 months so my arse is saggy as shit, bikini bottoms were giving me quad bumcheeks, ya know what I did? Whacked it on and hoiked them out when needed, not a single fuck given. I remember precisely one person in their swimwear, and only because of her very obvious fake boobs and sunbed tan.

DaisyChain505 · 11/07/2025 16:36

When you die your friends won’t be gathered around at your funeral talking about how much they’ll miss your small waist or your long thick hair or remembering that flattering outfit your wore. They’ll be talking about how much they’ll miss how kind and funny you were and remembering the amazing laughs and memories you made together.

That being said, if you’re not happy and not treating your body with kindness maybe it is time to start making some changes but that shouldnt be just so you can look a certain way on holiday it should be because you want treat your body with respect and live a healthy long life.

Start small with making sure you’re drinking plenty of water and moving every day and try and think twice when making a choice on food. Ask yourself if what you’re about to eat is food fuel for your body or just processed rubbish. Try not to limit how much you eat, just the quality of the food.

Its better to have three square meals plus snacks a day rather than starving yourself all day and then binging on a packet of biscuits because you’re starving.

Go and enjoy your holiday and be kind to yourself.

LightCameraBitchSmile · 11/07/2025 16:38

Your body is the least interesting thing about you.

go have fun with your fiends, swim, sun bathe, dance, run, drink, take photos. You’ll never look back and think ‘I’m glad I spent that holiday on my own in all my clothes while my friends had fun without me’

StMarie4me · 11/07/2025 16:43

You don’t owe anyone a skinny body.

Your friends wouldn’t love you more if you were 7lbs lighter.

Just enjoy your holiday. And don’t apologise for who you are!
