Big umbrella for shade and handheld fans? Good luck!

CaughtInATrap123 · 11/07/2025 09:37

Umbrella!
Bottle of ice.
A hat (never realised how helpful these are).

don’t offer to do the parents race - way too hot haha

CaughtInATrap123 · 11/07/2025 09:37

And a chair to sit on, standing seems hotter too

I’m surprised it’s not being cancelled.

School just posted on facebook to say it’s definitely in and refreshments are available. Good tip re hat although I always feel like having my head covered makes me hotter. Maybe Im not used to wearing them.

Hat. Chair. Umbrella. Water. If you can keep the sun off your head, it will be much more comfortable.

Water in a spray bottle and a hand held fan

clothes that aren’t clingy

avoid wearing black

the unbreall and hat is a must

ice in a ziplock bag to put under your hat or use on your body as you please

At our Australian sports days, the sidelines are shade from one end to the other with people bringing gazebos, big beach umbrellas, eskies full of icy drinks - you name it.

Get there early, find your spot and set up. Then friends wander in, find someone they know and crash your joint. It’s all very convivial.

Home Bargains have got parasols for under £6. We got two for the beach and they’re brilliant for the price. I’d be inclined to get a couple for your mum friends, just so your child doesn’t feel like his family are the only bonkers ones, and I think they do camping chairs as well.

I went to sports day in June when really hot ?not as hot as today though) and had a floaty maxi dress that covered shoulders too - meant I didn't have to worry about suncream / sun burn too much. Big hat. Stick a bottle of water in freezer if have time. I took spare water for my DS too - he was very happy to have extra. With our sports day there is a lot of following them around the field as they do different events, so couldn't really base myself. Did see a few people using umbrellas as parasols.
