Just hired a cleaner

Just hired a cleaner after spending 6 hours cleaning the house and thinking I can’t do this anymore.
She’s coming 2 days a week. What would you expect to be achieved in this time? I don’t want to expect too much. But equally it’s a big expense and I want this to actually help and me not have to clean so much.
House is 3 beds. 1 bathroom. Cluttered but tidy

Hi OP - how long is she coming for - do you mean two hours a week?

Oh yeah 2 hours a week. Not 2 days 🙈 that would be amazing 🤣

She will achieve less at first, as she will be getting use to the house / things to a certain standard.

But I’d be expecting bathrooms, floors and kitchen as the basic.

Mine also does all the ironing too, cleans windows, oven, makes beds etc - whatever needs doing, but I have them for quite a bit more time.

You should see what you can achieve in two hours and expect her to do broadly the same.

If you can hoover through and clean the kitchen and bathroom in that time then that's what I'd expect from her.

Or if there is something that is more pressing you can ask her to do that, but again use what you could achieve in two hours as the benchmark for heat you can expect her to do.

Ours is a 4 bed 3 bathroom house and our cleaner comes for 3 hours every other week. In that time she does a great surface clean of everywhere apart from one of the bedrooms which we use as a home office so are working in when she's here.

She will vacuum, mop, dust, wipe down sides, wipe kitchen cupboard doors and clean shower screens, toilets etc. So all the main bits that need regularly keeping on top of. She doesn't do things like clean the windows, any tidying or changing bedding etc, really pulling out furniture and deep cleaning behind stuff but that's absolutely fine as she buys us time so we can sort the rest.

In 2 hours a week I'd expect her to do a surface level clean of your whole house.

Hired several cleaners who told me my house was dirty. One pointed to a hair on the bathroom floor and expected that to be cleaned up before she arrived.

One exclaimed the house was dirty

I asked her why would I hire a cleaner to clean a house that was already clean.

I made sure the house was tidy when they came and just wanted someone to hoover and mop the floors, clean the 2 bathrooms and wipe down surfaces.

First time I hired someone for 6 hours expecting a deeper clean
I got a lecture on what a state my newly decorated and renovated house was.
(just to be clear there want any building stuff or decorating stuff around.
After 4 weeks I gave up. It was too much stress and not a nice experience

You'd be better off having this discussion with the actual cleaner. No one here knows the current cleanliness/ tidiness of your house. Do a walk-through with them and agree tasks between you.

Wow, you got really unlucky! We’ve had a few cleaners in different areas and they’ve never commented on the state of the house, just cracked on. I wouldn’t be without a cleaner now, working full time with 3 kids.
