Lipoma gone hard

I have a small lipoma (about size of a 50 pence piece) on the outer side of my forearm. Had it for about 2 or 3 years, hasn’t really grown since I became aware of it, very squishy and easily moved around. It’s suddenly become hard, unmovable and possibly slightly bigger. I will of course make a gp appointment. I was just wondering if anyone else has had such a thing happen or has any knowledge as to why it would suddenly harden? I don’t really know much about lipomas 🤷🏻‍♀️

There are a couple of possibilities . It may not be a lipoma . Was it fixed to the skin but squishy and mobile? If so it might be a sebaceous cyst which has grown and is inflamed.

Otherwise if it was a deeper mobile soft lump it might be that it has undergone a change. In this case you need to have some imaging - an MRI is most useful for soft tissue lumps.

I think you should see your GP asap about this for a face to face opinion .

Did a GP ever confirm it was a lipoma?

Thank you for your replies. A gp did confirm although she never actually touched it! Although it was movable it must be tethered as it didn’t migrate. It’s now painful today too. I’m waiting to hear back from doc for an appointment.
