Learning to cook

How did you learn to cook?
Did you have home economics at school?
I grew up in a family involved in the food industry so I wasn’t really taught per se, more like learning by watching everything and osmosis!
My DCs are the same, they’ve always been in and around the kitchen when we are cooking so are always involved in one way or another, from day dot.
My sister’s kids are coming over to stay this summer and they have asked for actual cooking lessons as due to their parents’ professions, they’ve never really done much home cooking.

Ask them what they like eating and get them involved in the cooking of it .
Get them to experiment with with different flavours and textures, the stranger the better .

I wouldn't approach it as a lesson , more of a experiment.
That said there are some rules , especially when it comes to baking so teaching them the basics of sponge and pastry making would be a good idea
