White feathers

Has anyone unexpectedly found white feathers?

I ask in response to my young son who yesterday found one on the floor at the side of his bed and this morning I found one on the floor next to my bed, I put it inside his ipad cover as a keepsake, but had to check that it was still there when the second one turned up.

On a side note, I do consider myself to be spiritually open, it has been a long while since I have experienced 'esoteric signs'.

Yes they come out of our pillows and duvet.

JDM625 · 10/07/2025 17:12

I agree, nothing woo going on, they have come from a duvet or pillow!

If they were from a live bird trapped in your house, I'd be more concerned about touching feathers from a potential bird flu case or it having mites! 😬

WaitedBlankey · 10/07/2025 17:13

All the time - the down feathers of pigeons and others are often white and the come out regularly. I see several a week throughout summer because we have a lot of birds nearby.

There's nothing spiritual, it's basically natural litter.

We see them often. I always think: 'Oh a fox has had another wood pigeon in the night then'.

Yes they come out of our pillows and duvet.

I bought pillow protectors to restrict how many feathers came out overnight.

The Mouldiwarp has been there.

And then a soft wind blew through the little room—a wind like the wind that breathes softly in walled gardens and shakes down the rose-leaves on sparkling summer mornings. And the white feathers on the floor were stirred by the sweet wind, and drifted into little heaps and lines and curves till they made on the dusty floor the circle of a clock-face, with all its figures and its long hand and its short hand and its second hand. And the white Mole stood in the middle.

“All white things obey me,” it said. “Come, sit down on the minute hand, and you’ll be there in no time.”

Glitchymn1 · 10/07/2025 17:23

I don’t have feathers in my pillows or duvet- very cruel.
We have foxes and wood pigeons in the garden.
I’ve not seen any feathers in my home.

🥰 I love the Moldiwarp - The House of Arden was one of my favourite books as a child.
OP, if its that you are very lucky!

HonoriaBulstrode · 10/07/2025 17:32

I wondered how many people would recognise it. 😊

I too loved The House of Arden. OP, how old is DS? He might like it too, if he likes history and fantasy.

Downstairs neighbour at my old flat was over the moon that her mother sent hundreds of white feathers falling down over her head like snow when she was sitting on her balcony drinking with her boyfriend.

Didn't have the heart to tell her that I'd been watching a Sparrowhawk systematically disassemble a woodpigeon next to the chimney from my top floor flat at the same time as her Messages from the Angels came in.

When DD was a baby we were in a church service and a white feather came floating down from the rafters and landed on us, I have no explanation for how as we were indoors and its a fairly small church so any bird that was up there would definitely have been noticed. My mum said it was my late Gran who died shortly before DD was born looking down on us and showing her approval that I had taken DD to church as Gran was very religious and went pretty much every day. I like that thought, it's comforting.

Champaganesupernova · 10/07/2025 17:41

YES!! After my lovely dad died I found a really large white feather inside of my purse no idea how it got there, also a white feather under the inner sole of my shoe . My mum has some of my dad's hair in a container and when I looked at it in her dresser there was a white feather right next to it.

8yrs ago, working in a small warehouse, all electrical stuff, nothing fluffy, I was talking with my boss and a white feather came down from the ceiling, no windows or anything, and I just caught it as it drifted into my hand. Boss and I looked at each other and he said 'there's your angel keeping an eye on you'.

Lovely thread, and that text above from the book is gorgeous too. It has happened me a few times too and I get the feeling I’m on the right path when I see a white feather.

I'm not normally a 'woo' type person but something happened with a white feather that I can't explain.

So, after my Mum passed away I would see them everywhere. Whenever I would think about her, or talk to her, soon after I would see one. Part of me believed it was her sending a message she heard me and part of me was thinking 'don't be mental, its just a bloody white feather'

One day, the day before the anniversary of the death of my baby boy, I was talking to my Mum and I said that I hoped that she was with him, and taking care of him for me and that I loved them both.

The next day, the day of the anniversary of his death, I reached over and picked up the photo frame I have of him to give it a little kiss and behind it, on the shelf, was a small brilliant white feather. I literally have absolutely no idea how it got there. It was tucked away behind it and couldn't have accidently landed there from anywhere. I asked my DH and my DD if either of them had put it there and they said no. It was not there the day before because I had picked it up to polish it. WTAF?

Like I said, I am in no means a 'woo' type of person but to this day none of us have any idea how this tiny white feather got behind that photo frame that is sat pushed against an indoor window shelf in the house.

Now I am not crazy and not suggesting my Mum showed up and put it there (that would be ludicrous) but how the hell did it get there??

It would be unkind to ask if you use a feather duster when cleaning or if you'd polished something in the bedroom near pillows or the sofa cushions.

So, the answer is clearly whatever gives you the most comfort in your losses.

PiggyPigalle · 10/07/2025 19:07

When I drag my feather mattress topper outside to remove the cover for washing, it looks like the aftermath of a massacre out there.
I imagine all my neighbours must be finding white feathers.

No feather duster, no feathers in pillows or cushions, not near a window where it could have blown in etc which is what makes it even the more bloody weird!!

I'm not even saying I believe it was anything 'woo' just that I can't explain where the hell it came from 😂

Rizzz · 10/07/2025 19:09

They come from birds.

In this weather we all have windows and doors open.

They float in and get caught in upholstery/on top of wardrobes etc and then float down later.

WhistlingStraits · 10/07/2025 19:10

Yes, they blow in the windows. I’m pretty sure my dead parents are not sending me them. 😬

I found a green one in the kitchen the other day. From a parakeet, or a green ghost.

CurlewKate · 10/07/2025 19:50

Yep. They come out of pillows, cushions and duvets. And birds.

Hmnnnnnnn · 31/07/2025 21:16

I was always sceptical about this kind of thing but the day after my darling Mum died suddenly I found a white feather in my purse . Cannot think of an explanation for that !
