DH smelly feet

This sounds trivial, but is really bothering me. He walks around the house with bare feet at the moment, and I feel like I can smell his feet even when he's not there sometimes.
What actually works for this?
He likes wearing sandals, and because he's a vegan they seem to have to be plastic, and I think this is not helping. Ideas, please?

My DH has this problem and puts deodorant on his feet, winter and summer, and also uses Odor Eaters insoles in shoes.

PiggyPigalle · 10/07/2025 12:56

Hibiscrub, as used by surgeons. Kills the bacteria causing the smell.

3beesinmybonnet · 10/07/2025 13:13

Odaban spray is marvellous, can be ordered from Boots

MissPeachyKeen · 10/07/2025 13:14

All the above but if sweaty feet are a real problem he could look at botox injections to prevent it.

Whatareyoutalkingaboutnow · 10/07/2025 13:18

This is not trivial at all, my DH was oblivious to it recently, I just told him to go wash them as they were smelly.
Sometimes you need to be blunt. 🤷‍♀️

redfishcat · 10/07/2025 14:05

Is he washing them with bar soap and a flannel? And really scrubbing them. Just standing in the shower or sitting in a bath won’t work
this needs to be every day
he then needs to spray with an antiperspirant to actually stop him sweating.
he needs to wear shoes every other day as they need a day to dry out
and he may need socks if he won’t wear sandals with a leather or suede or cork interior as all plastics will just make the problem worse

PiggyPigalle · 10/07/2025 20:30

While he's Hibiscrubbing his feet, his sandals should be washed with it.
Once that's done and thoroughly dried, then on with deodorant or anti-perspirant. As @redfishcat said, a flannel is needed between and under toes to remove old smelly skin.

Deodorants aren't miracle workers, bacteria need to be removed first.

Well I just took my shoes off after being at work and travelling home on the tube in this heat and it wasn’t pleasant. Shower and foot deodorant.

PashaMinaMio · 10/07/2025 20:42

Bacteria from his feet can become embedded in flooring and carpets.
He really needs to wear flip flops or similar when at home.
Dont keep his shoes in your/his wardrobe. They’ll make your clothes smell.
There some stuff made by HG which eliminates odour including in shoes. Amazon and B&Q have it. Works a treat in shoes:

Finally he needs to up his feet hygiene efforts.
Good luck.

Thank you all so much. Sorry to be slow replying. I am saving all these responses and appreciate them greatly! Trying to work out how to implement interventions without him getting shirty atm....

Is it dirt under his toe nails? Get him a good foot exfoliator and tell him to use it daily!

KidsDoBetter · 11/07/2025 18:16

It’s gross. My ex used surgical spirit on the soles to harden the skin. It worked.

Not sure why partners dance around these problems. I'd want to know and be thrilled if you had some solutions to try.
Better you tell him, as others may have noticed.

Peditech spray is very good.
M&S socks too, they used to sell ones called fresh feet that eliminate smells, but they now seem to be called cool & fresh.

CosyAutumn · 11/07/2025 21:28

I bought some plastic sandals and I haven’t even worn them yet because they stink even when brand new, and the smell knocks me sick.
I’ve had them outside for three weeks and they still smell funny.
