Copper v hormonal coil at 46

Not after medical advice, just a what would you do question.

I’ve had my copper coil for just under 10 years, I went on it because I was breastfeeding and didn’t want hormonal contraception.

Im now 45, probably in peri menopause but have no symptoms I know of and regular periods that aren’t heavy. I need to have the coil replaced this year. I’ve read that the mirena coil can be good for peri menopause and I’m wondering if I should go into that instead?

Any thoughts or personal experience welcome

Had my first mirena 6 months ago after years of copper coil. Very happy with it, no periods since I got it. Result!

No experience of the copper coil but I love my Mirena coil. Highly recommend.

Go for the mirena - if you do end up needing HRT this can be used as part of it

I had the copper coil for years leading into the perimenopause. My periods were getting closer together and heavier and I had other menopause symptoms like anxiety. I changed to the Mirena as the progesterone part of my HRT. I’ve been really pleased with it. I did bleed lightly for months at the beginning but since that settled down I’ve had no periods at all and it’s amazing. I don’t think I’ve had any side-effects.

I used to have copper for similarreadons to you. Have gone onto mirena (at similar age), and my periods (which were getting heavier and I was getting more emotional) have stopped completely. Bliss! Recommend.
