Because I miss them... and long for the Autumn. I'm not feeling great today so please cheer me up and tell me it's not going to be much longer.

Several weeks yet, and thank god, because I hate the autumn and winter

My last holiday was to a country that had twenty four hour day light. And there was no night 😍

BringYourOwnBullshit · 07/07/2025 20:43

Several weeks okay I'm assuming you mean 3 and not 5. Bollocks to summer!

Late September is when we notice it. Ages away!

Achdinnae · 07/07/2025 20:47

They already are drawing in. I''m quite far north at the moment and have really noticed it this year ,perhaps because the weather hasn't been good .

ImAPreMadonna · 07/07/2025 20:48

Same as PP, late September thank god. Summer has only just started (also thank god!)

Neurodiversitydoctor · 07/07/2025 20:51

End of August ? Early September. But notice it most when tbe clocks go back after Autumn half term- horrible.

rosie1959 · 07/07/2025 20:52

Not yet we are only just over 2 weeks past the longest day and in the middle of summer. We have plenty of long dark days nice to have a bit of sunshine and warm evenings.

PotatoBreadForTheWin · 07/07/2025 20:55

I usually notice it in August, when I’m longing for the end of the school holidays!

user1476613140 · 07/07/2025 20:57

Just as the schools return, so mid August. Thank goodness!

Decafflatteplease · 07/07/2025 20:58

@BringYourOwnBullshit I'm also an autumn lover and just feel so much more "me" in the autumn winter. I notice the nights drawing in usually as school goes back in early September.

Although tonight it's quite dark already with a nip in the air, but meant to be 27 degrees over the weekend so nowhere near autumn yet!

SaturdayDream · 07/07/2025 20:58

It feels like it tonight but it’s just chucked it down.

Bridport · 07/07/2025 20:58

I notice it around the end of August.

Ihad2Strokes · 07/07/2025 21:07

@BringYourOwnBullshit

I live Autumn too! But I also love the long, light, evenings. Sorry you don't!

RareMaker · 07/07/2025 21:09

Definitely mid August. So like 4 weeks. Not long!

EmeraldRoulette · 07/07/2025 21:12

I'd say third week of August but I'm way over sensitive to light levels.

Disturbia81 · 07/07/2025 21:14

Don’t worry summer will be over before we know it, I love all seasons but do prefer the darker nights.

We tend to go abroad for the second or third week of August and, when we come home, it’s always noticeable that the evenings are getting shorter.

TulipTuesday · 07/07/2025 22:41

It’s always been lore in our family that ‘winter is coming’ after the last fireworks of our town’s flower show in mid August.

Unfortunately, it has been cancelled this year so haven’t got that to refer to.

EssentialDecluttering · 07/07/2025 22:43

Not for a while yet thank goodness, I am the opposite and would be happy if they stayed as they are now all year round. Probably mid to late August. I find it deeply depressing.

Fizbosshoes · 07/07/2025 22:48

I usually notice in mid-late August and I hate it.

I didn't realise dark mornings and early evenings were so popular until I joined MN

YourDandyPlumBeaker · 07/07/2025 23:01

Probably the end of August is when I start to notice. I love the early nights and Autumn, that feeling of being cocooned and snuggly. Don't get me wrong, summer has its good points, such as sunny days at the beach and barbecues, but I do prefer, and feel more 'myself', during autumn and winter.
