My big toe nail

About 9 months ago I walked, barefooted, in to a hard object. My nail has now almost grown out. Looks dreadful and like it has doubled in depth but I'm not sure what has gone on. It also looks like it has a split in it.

It's not grown enough to cut but I'm concerned that it's going to split or get caught and pulled off (aaaaargh)

What do you suggest I do? I've never done false nails or the likes so have no idea what I could do to keep it in place for just another 2-3 months.

I’d probably go and see a podiatrist. They can make sure nothing awful is going on and trim/file/cut it for you as it grows.

I would find the sporners corner board, post a photo and ask for advice…!

I did a DIY repair on a split toenail using nail hardener and the paper from a teabag. Painted the nail with hardener, stuck a layer of trimmed-to-fit paper on top and let it dry before putting another layer of hardener and a second piece of paper on top. A final layer of hardener and it was good to go. Saw me all through a hiking holiday and lasted until the split grew out.

Sounds like you made a toe lasagne! So clever.

If it’s gotten thicker the damage may have allowed a fungal infection in

I've actually done just that. Was on holiday last week and bare footed and noticed how awful it was. Googled and had to go and buy tea bags just for this (works well must admit)

Now, of course, all that layers would have to be removed by a podiatrist. I don't know what to do <<wails>>.

Don't think there's anything fungal as there is no discolouration, just a deformed nail.

Do you have a dremel multibit? Not joking. With the pointy sander attachment, it is easy to take down the depth of the nail and make it smooth so it doesn’t catch. You might need someone to help you, but it is very doable.
