New android phone

I haven't had a new phone in about 4-5 years and I've completely forgotten how it all works.

I'd prefer to buy the phone outright so I don't have to get a contract.

Android rather that iPhone.

How does it all work on terms of keeping your phone number, transferring contacts and photos etc. How does it work in terms of keeping WhatsApp conversations and keeping all my internet banking logins?

Thank you.

It's all very easy. Make sure you back up WhatsApp straight before doing the switch. You'll need to jump through a couple of ID hoops with your bank etc.
Everything else should be seamless.

Also if anyone has bought a phone recently and has any recommendations, I'd be grateful

Buy a phone from Amazon/Argos
Put your sim in
Follow the transfer instructions

It's that simple

How do you transfer all your passwords?

slonestranger · 06/07/2025 17:41

Download the smart switch app from the play store. This will transfer all your settings, data, apps photos files etc.

Install on both phones.

Make sure you have the right size sim for your new phone.

You can request this from your service provider.

Put sim in new phone open the smart switch app and follow the instructions.

How do you do that?

Open WhatsApp, tap the three dots at the top right, choose "settings", tap the magnifying glass, type "backup", choose the first result, hit the big green 'back up" button.

It will happen automatically.

I'm really happy with my Google Pixel phone. Tons of storage, a good camera and all the apps I need. It was very simple to transfer everything over from my old phone too.

I've just bought a Samsung 24plus reconditioned from GiffGaff, I didn't get the top condition level but to me it looks perfect.

I used smart switch no problem and only had to reenter my Google account and my bank I think.
