Lost quite a bit of weight but still look big in pictures

Put on quite a bit of weight over the winter. Managed to lose it and more. Lost just over 1.7 stone, down from a 10/12 to now wearing a size 8 which is feeling lose from some stores.

I am 5.4" so this is right more me. I have also toned up loads as have been back to consistently doing a lot of pilates, ashtanga yoga, gym work and running.

I felt great in my swimwear. However feeling really despondent as just looking back over holiday pics and I still look 'big' and uncomfortable in clothes. Less so in swimwear but still big. I have pics from last October when I am actually a little bit bigger by a few pounds than I am now (I started putting on the weight in Nov) and I look no better if not a little bit bigger now?!?? Feeling really despondent.

It will be down to the angle it is taken at and the pose surely?

im sure you look absolutely amazing. well done you for losing so much! 🙌 they do say the camera puts 10lbs on people so dont feel too disheartened! 🩷

It’s very easy to take an unflattering photo! Don’t think too much about it. You have obviously lost weight. Don’t be disheartened by a few less than perfect pics.
I went to a wedding recently and felt great, had a really good time. Saw a photo and absolutely died inside at how I looked! My legs and stomach looked awful! But then I remembered that I had a brilliant time and felt good which is all that matters. Everyone had photos of themselves they hate.

How do you feel in your body?
What can you do with your body that you couldn’t before?
Hows you energy, your sleep, your relationship with food, your sex life?

Youve got to work to reframe it, focus on the positive.

I am certain the camera loves some people and absolutely loathes others.

I've lost ten kilos. I'm 6ft. Down from size 14 to a size 12. I thought I looked great.

In recent photos and videos, I look absolutely ginormous. Flabby. Fat. Meaty. But when I look down at my body, it just doesn't look like that.

I'm sure it's just I am deeply unphotogenic and perhaps you are too, op.

Swimwear photos though? Impossible to look like a model in swimwear. Have a close look next time you are shopping for swimwear because the models are photoshopped so, so much. Sometimes summer clothes are loose and airy, again difficult to look slim. It could be the angle, the camera lense, the lighting.
You are allowed to have fun and enjoy your health no matter what you look like in photos.

I’ve lost 2 stone and I’m short. Most people don’t notice and I still look fat in photos. It’s quite demoralising.

I think it’s more the angle and clothes, that make a difference.

Pyjamatimenow · 06/07/2025 15:22

I’m size 8 and 5ft 10, bmi 20 ish. Still quite capable of looking big in pics. Bad angles and I’m awkward generally

WearyAuldWumman · 06/07/2025 15:25

I'm still overweight, but have moved down from "obese" according to the NHS BMI chart.

People didn't notice my weight loss until I started dressing differently.

If you look better in swimwear, is it your clothes? What I mean is that I for example used to love drapey ruched longer tops when bigger, because they were great for hiding the rolls. But this style, even in smaller size, is no longer flattering, but swamping and making me look bigger than I am. Maybe you need more fitted clothes?
