Ocado not the same?

Anyone else noticed this?
As the past few months have gone by, most of what I have in my basket drops out of stock - them comes back - then drops out again within a few mins.

Every order has a few substitutions, unlike the past few years. Usually something totally incongruous, such as substituting sourdough for seeded burger buns.

Also the delivery. They all seem in a rush, less relaxed and don't often even ask for the bags back.

I did a search and can only find financial info, which suggests the company have issues with shares, estimating a good few million in losses since 2020.

Thought I would put it here in case anyone else has noticed a difference. I only used them previously due to reliability, which is now pretty lax.

No I find them great, I have a huge order once a month and rarely any substitutions. Last months order was £250 and they substituted M & S potatoes for ocado ones and choc buttons for a bag of mini twirls but that was unusual, many deliveries there has been no substitutions. The delivery drivers have all been delightful so perhaps its just your area.

Generally alright here, except it takes me about three stages to get into the app now.

I did try changing my delivery time from midday to early evening but twice in two weeks it was late, so have returned to midday now.

Ah, god to hear hopefully it is just an anomaly here.
Had great service from them for over 7 years so would be sad to hear they are in trouble.
I know M&S had issues recently due to a cyber attack so have been concerned.

Last 4 orders I have had broken items - which is not something I've experienced before. The latest delivery was a set of 12 eggs which were totally smashed and the driver hadn't noticed despite everything in that bag being drenched. Always been an ocado fan but these recent packing issues are frustrating as you never know what goods you are having to return.

BeachLifeForMe · 05/07/2025 01:52

I can't say I've noticed any issues with the service. Been an Ocado regular for many years and the only time they have seriously annoyed me is by initially not prioritising regular customers during covid.

We have scaled back number of orders and number of items purchased though. Being on maternity leave I've had to take a long hard look at our finances and our grocery bill has gone through the roof (like everyone else's). I love the service and convenience but struggling to justify the costs.

I was chatting to a friend about this and we came to the conclusion that the service varies hugely avoiding to which Ocado hub your delivery comes from.

I think Ocado are brilliant, reliable, with very few substitutions or missing items and fruit and veg is good quality and arrives in good condition. Friend's experience is entirely different and she finds she has multiple substitutions per shop and that she's not particularly happy with the fresh produce.

ISawAMouseThere · 05/07/2025 01:55

Yes, compared to all of the others Ocado are very reliable, and i am concerned that they are struggling.

I think my hub is Liverpool, since I am in the north of the north west.

I’ve not noticed any difference recently. I’ve used Ocado weekly for over 20 years and I think they’re brilliant. I’ve not had a substitution for several weeks, but when they do have to substitute, they always select something that is very similar. Nee get maybe an average of one missing item a fortnight. The vast majority of food seems to be much better quality than other supermarkets, apart from Waitrose and M&S. We were only saying yesterday what lovely drivers we’ve had recently (that’s not to say they are ever anything other than pleasant and polite, but the last few weeks they’ve been even nicer than usual). . I really appreciate the drivers bringing my food in for me, and that they still deliver in carrier bags. I also don’t mind the new app.

Rosepalmaviolets · 05/07/2025 07:59

After the whole trans debacle and Mumsnet I feel incredibly let down by them .
It's on here somewhere spelling out how they wouldn't advertise here because some women had the temerity to say sex is biological and ocado couldn't handle that.

Westfacing · 05/07/2025 08:14

I'm in London and been with Ocado over 20 years - still think overall the service is still very reliable with hardly any substitutions. Drivers are good-natured and efficient.

Just wish they'd team back up with Waitrose!

EachandEveryone · 05/07/2025 13:16

I’m on here because I’ve just had a delivery and I’m quite surprised as it’s the first time I’ve ever had an issue. I cannot fault the driver.

i ordered two lots of ice cream one vanilla and one rum and raisin ( I just fancied it) and they substituted that with another tub of vanilla. I just thinkn a flavour would’ve been nice.
The M&S bag of tangerines have two rotten ones in.

And, most bizarrely I ordered a pack of those strips you put in the toilet bowl. They are £3 each, they’ve sent me the whole box! There must be twenty packs in there they will last a year!

it’s just very strange as they are normally spot on.

DinoLil · 05/07/2025 13:18

Ocado don't deliver in my county but I always put in a massive order just before I go home from visiting family. I think they're great!

CatsorDogsrule · 05/07/2025 13:24

No change here in the SW. Sadly they had to cancel my order this week as the van's refrigerator malfunctioned. They would have still delivered the ambient if I wanted, but I declined. Couldn't fault their apologies and voucher of goodwill. Been using them for nearly 20 years.
