Can anyone help me find this thread, please?

A few years ago, I think, or maybe last year... which is when I started considering this

There was a thread about home offices. Somebody linked to an amazing set up which was operated by remote control and was on wheels and it was almost like you could pack your office away.

I wish I could explain it better.

It wasn't a company in the UK - and posters were saying that any good joiner would be able to build this.

I have tried searching, but no avail. I can't remember the name of the company that made it either.

if it helps, it was floor to ceiling furniture. It wasn't just a desk. So you would open it up and it would expand into your space and you would put your chair there to work.

Then you would have to remove the chair, I think, and then click the button and it retracts back again.

at the time I thought it wasn't worth paying someone to make that, but I now think it probably is. So I would really like to find it so I can make some enquiries.

Thanks to anyone who can help.

Cant remember the thread, and this is not automated, but something like this? https://storage4crafts.com/collections/the-storeaway/craft-room-craft-storage

@EveryKneeShallBow thank you but no, that's not it

It's like two pieces, two massive pieces so floor to ceiling, that one of them at least is on wheels, and there was a remote control that would open it up and put it back in again.

Sounds awesome! I hope you find it!

@EveryKneeShallBow thank you

Maybe it wasn't a popular concept because I can't find it on the Internet. Though admittedly I don't really have the words to describe it 😂

I think I know what you mean but pretty sure I saw it on fb not here. It’s was a massive room divider, which then moved over to the wall and hid all the contents

EmeraldRoulette · 05/07/2025 15:55

@happinessischocolate that sounds like it! I think the thread said only one company made it. I'm out atm but will try googling that later. Thank you

Did it look something like this but bigger? Like Happiness mentioned I also saw it on FB and I it had plug points, space for a monitor etc

@Gothzilla alas, no

I will try and give a better description

It was two pieces of furniture. So custom built shelving. I think it was being marketed as a way to hide away your home office but also use the space for other things

So imagine two large pieces of furniture, you can press a button and they separate or connect. Then you can see all your desk stuff your files, etc and put a chair there to work at your desk.

Then at the end of the day, you would press the button and the two pieces would come back together. Then you would be looking at whatever you wanted to look at eg another set of shelves with ornaments or books.

I think it cost about £5000 or €5000. And the post attracted a couple of people saying that it wouldn't be a difficult thing for a carpenter or joiner to make in this country and could be done a lot cheaper.

The electronic wheel operation would have to be incredibly smooth in order to avoid your stuff falling over though. So maybe there's no market for it. I did think it would be really helpful for small flats but I didn't think I'd be living in mine long enough to need something like that.

I remember on this thread people were saying that only one company made it so it can't have been that popular I guess.

@Bumply thank you - but there's no bed involved. (that is a funny sentence to type out😂)

I was going mad too, it was bothering me so much, hence the nearly 2am message 😂I remember seeing it advertised every single time I opened facebook years ago! Instead of search for google images I had a brainwave to search in videos instead and there it was!

EmeraldRoulette · 08/07/2025 20:38

@Gothzilla how did you describe it though? I don't remember it being called a "pocket office". And I had no idea how to describe what I was looking for.

sorry, I didn't mean to give you insomnia!

hopefully, if there's any comparable stuff the algorithm will show me that now.

@EmeraldRoulette Haha no it’s fine I struggle with insomnia anyway.

Looking at my history I tried many different variations but the one that did it was ‘wfh extending space saver unit’ 😂on my phone and I clicked on short videos. It brought up a couple instagram and pinterest videos
