British Airways or Virgin Atlantic

Who do you prefer for long haul flights?

I guess economy is always crap in both. What has the better business option?

Flying with BA in economy when the flight wasn't full was alright. I think next time I fly I'll opt for premium economy.

TBH, both are fucking dogshit. Especially BA.

Bodonka · 03/07/2025 16:29

Neither 😂 If push comes to shove I’ll fly Virgin over BA though.

Ukkake · 03/07/2025 16:30

All depends on the aircraft in business tbh. Both the old ‘ying-yang’ seating on B.A and the Virgin coffin seats are dreadful and very dated now.
I do around 50 long haul business trips a year and I prefer the new B.A Club Suites.

I think Virgin have the edge when it comes to long haul. Their Premium Economy is pretty good

Lorrymum · 03/07/2025 16:37

BA have cancelled several flights friends and family have been scheduled to fly on. I wouldn't touch them with a bargepole.
I flew to Orlando on Virgin Premium Economy last year and they were very good.

minnienono · 03/07/2025 16:39

Virgin is terrible, ba is passable. Virgin (if you are reading) if your customers are in seats a&b and customer is is asleep in seat c then it’s really appreciated if you come when they press the service button, after an hour I had to wake the sleeping person up because I needed water to take meds!

Those who have done business. Is it enjoyable?

I find both get me from a to b. Pros and cons are much of a muchness. I can’t justify anything other than economy.

considerations for me are route and cost.

BA nearly always works out cheaper, but are London centric and I find don’t always fly direct to where I want. I live in the Manchester so Heathrow/gatwick can be a pita, but then the man-lhr flight can be cheap and quick.

virgin fly from man. Which is great if I can get a direct flight to where I need. Much of the time they don’t though, and BA and man/lon onto wherever is more convenient for a cheaper price.

so price plus convenience of whichever route to get where I need. If I’m going to the US layover can be an arse as you have to immigrate on your first flight, which means it can be a bit hairy trying to get through border control, pick up luggage, back through security and to your next flight.

With Virgin it depends which routes, they have some really old outdated business cabins still in use, the newer product is a whole lot better.
I love the whole fast security, relax in the lounge start to a trip and I’m sure BA would be just as good that way. I’ve just not tried it.
The food can be bloody awful on virgin upper, even though you can choose in advance, I think the economy option is better quite often, but I eat well in the lounge knowing I don’t like the food onboard.

We flew to the US with Virgin and couldn't really fault them, I can't afford "fancy class" so premium economy was fine. And they feed and water you every few hours.😀

I have Avios to get through on BA so will be flying business with them for the foreseeable. After that, which airlines do you recommend? Can’t say I’ve been blown away by BA business.

I absolutely love business class and yes, really enjoy the flight. The BA suites are great.

Sadly I've used all my points so can't do it any more. I can't afford to pay for it! I went Premium Economy recently and thought it was worth it. Economy is so horrible and sadly business class has ruined me for it.

It’s much better than economy for long haul. I can’t be without a bed for long haul flights anymore and will factor BC flights into cost of a holiday.

Can’t comment on food as I’m usually out by the time they serve it 😂 but I usually manage a glass of champagne or two which is nice. So yeah, enjoyable overall if comparing to economy.

Or you could always buy some water in the terminal to make sure you can take your medication when you need to? You know like a responsible adult 🤷‍♀️

Ilovelowry · 03/07/2025 17:35

I've never had a bad BA experience. Had 100% awful virgin flights. (x4).

So BA all the way for me.

I had the same experience yours friends had with BA with Virgin. It was the return leg and they sent us back economy 24 hours later, whereas our original tickets were Premium. We didn't find out until we got to the airport! People who arrived 30 mins later had to wait 48hours for a flight home...

On our flight out we watched an entire Virgin flight be "deplaned" back through departures as we were waiting to board (and our flight was delayed by 2.5 hours) so frankly they are both as bad as each other.

(Edited for clarity)

Depends where you are going to/from.
