Last night I dreamed I was watching Busman's Holiday although I haven't watched it for years! But when I woke up I had the Krypton Factor on my mind. I enjoyed both of these as a child.

I don't like these kinds of shows anymore but it git me thinking about how many I watched as a kid:

Strike it Lucky
Family Fortunes with Les Dennis
The Price is Right with Leslie Crowther
Gladiators
Blockbusters with Bob Holness
The one with a dart game but can't remember the name? The players could win a Bully?
Catchphrase
The Weakest Link

I just don't like modern shows. I watched some of Who Wants to be a Millionaire and another I can't remember.

Which ones did/do you watch?

@BlueEyedBogWitch what a lovely memory to have.

Growlybear83 · 03/07/2025 13:31

I used to like Take your Pick and Double your Money when I was little. Game shows were quite a novelty back then .

Quiz questions written by someone on mind expanding drugs.

Yeah, they were impossible.

"I am a metal chariot
To transport you to Harrogate"

"Ooh Ted, I think that must be the car so I'll keep it."

"Hah! Screw you! It's a bin, you sadsack loser. Bins are made of metal, char is what you get when you burn rubbish, Harrogate is crap and boring, just like you and the shit you put in your bin. Now fuck off home and take the bin with you."

I loved Fun House until I was part of the audience

hours and hours we had to sit and cheer to get through just 2 of the games.

i was furious I didn’t get to run down to the front at the end as clearly the end would be about 4 audiences later 🤣

Every Second Counts hosted by Paul Daniels. I used to spend hours playing the computer game version on a Commodore 64 while I was babysitting.

I used to like Give Us a Clue (the charades game)* and Through the Keyhole. There was a lunchtime one called Three Little Words with an annoying repetitive jingle that used to drive my late father nuts. He liked Name That Tune.

And 321 was bonkers - watched a few old clips on Youtube once with the "cryptic clues" to the holiday prize destination - utterly incomprehensible and bizarre.

*On the Radio 4 comedy show "I'm Sorry I Haven't a Clue", they used to mercilessly send up Give Us a Clue and team captain Lionel Blair, with Humphrey Lyttelton giving great innuendoes like "Una Stubbs gasped in amazement as Lionel pulled off 'Three Men in a Boat'" and "Lionel was given 'A Town Like Alice' and chose to do a representation of its author - Una gasped in amazement as she saw Nevil Shute in Lionel's face". Marvellous.

Sale of the Century with Nicholas Parsons. I'm sure Simon Cowell was a contestant on there.

Will have to go and Google.

2dogsandabudgie · 03/07/2025 18:50

Yes just googled and a young Simon Cowell was on there.

cjcghana · 03/07/2025 18:58

Name that tune with des O'connor

NazeLife · 03/07/2025 18:58

Telly Addicts with Noel Edmonds and his hoofer doofer….
I liked all the kids ones, Cheggers Plays Pop, Crackerjack, We Are The Champions, You Should Be So Lucky.
Also The Adventure Game if that counts as a game show.
Once went to the filming of a quiz show, Trivial Pursuits with Rory McGrath, bet nobody remembers that, it probably only lasted one series.

Kimwestonhelpless · 03/07/2025 19:24

A kids one I think it was called clapper board hosted by John Craven and kids had to answer questions based on film clips.

Treasure Hunt - would be much easier now with the internet and Google Maps

Bullseye does look dated - I never thought the 80s looked like that when "I was there"

We watch family fortunes to guess the year by the clothes and hairstyles.
Oh and especially the big hair 80s style.

winewine · 03/07/2025 20:53

Never mind the buzzcocks

Treasure Hunt was brilliant. I loved it. I wish they’d show it again now. Wincy Willis died recently and it went unmarked.

TherebytheGraceofGodgoI · 03/07/2025 21:07

Just adding Winner takes all with Jimmy Tarbuck

WednesdaysChild50 · 03/07/2025 21:15

Hollywood or Bust (albeit short lived)

DisforDarkChocolate · 03/07/2025 21:18

Cheggers Plays Pop! Happy memories.

321, loved it.

NescafeAndIce · 03/07/2025 21:27

Turnabout. No-one ever remembers it but I can remember the little music riff!

Noseylittlemoo · 03/07/2025 21:49

@NescafeAndIce I remember Turnabout with Rob Curling (RIP) I think it was a lunchtime or maybe "after school" time quiz rather than prime time.
I came on to see if anyone else remembered it! Now the tune is stuck in my head!

Newgolddream70 · 03/07/2025 22:09

Runaround! G-g-g-go!!!!!

DCorMe · 04/07/2025 00:11

One of my claim to fames was that I was on Granada quiz programme for kids Hold Tight, hosted by spit the dog with his sidekick Bob Carolgees. It was filmed at Alton Towers and the Bluebells and dead or alive were playing

Oh that’s sad, Wincy Willis was a childhood superstar for me

Man O Man!

Kimwestonhelpless · 04/07/2025 00:24

That was really bad if I remember correctly?
