Present for form tutor - historical book

My son is moving forms (secondary) and I’d like to purchase a book for his teacher. He teaches history and I know little else about him!

i wouldn’t usually purchase gifts in secondary but this is a slightly unusual situation and it would be nice to give a gesture.

any suggestions of a giftable book? Something maybe a little obscure but non-fiction.

Why are you getting him a gift? How awkward will your child feel giving the teacher the gift

Better to give a book token as you probably don't know which bit of history he actually likes - its often nothing they teach in school. An alternative might be an Art Pass to give reduced admission to museums for a year - you can buy it as a voucher in case they already have one and they can use it for the renewal.

Having worked in schools it’s not unusual to give form tutors an end of term token gift?

and that really wasn’t the point of my post. I just wanted a small token book for my son to give his teacher.

Mmmm...it's hard if you don't know what area of history he is into. You could try collected works of William Hazlitt if you want something giftable, academic, excellent writing and a little off the beaten track. Or for something more light hearted and possibly appropriate as a gift from your son, I'd recommend "I'm off then" by Hape kerkeling. It's got nuggets of history and culture and very relatable (easy reading, funny and stays with you)

Book token

I agree that if you must give a gift then token is best so he can choose what he would like to read. He might want to read another genre and there’s no way of knowing what he owns and what area of history interests him most.
