Heat making me feel ill

Saycheese2044 · 30/06/2025 13:30

I just went to a cafe to treat myself its new so gave it ago. I had French toast with fruit and syrup . Also a milk shake. Since then i have felt so bloated. I cant get rid of the heavy bloating feeling even though I didn't feel bloated when eating and its been 90 mins since i ate.

I feel like I cant drink because I feel so bloated the heat is making me feel ill. I swear the food triggered it i was fine till then. I feel tempted to make myself sick.

I got to leave for school run at 2. On public transport wont be back till 4.15 ish 😭.

Also dd keeps talking me . My brain is mlt even working.

Sounds like you need to be sick then just have some plain fluids to keep you hydrated. Take a bag with you in case you feel sick on the school run. Do you have a hand fan or something to help keep you cool?

Sniffing some rubbing alcohol on a tissue or an alcohol wipe can help relieve nausea. Ginger - powdered or fresh can also help if you dissolve in hot water.

The heat makes me feel ill, people cannot seem to understand it. We're in the SE UK corner nearest to France, we've had several days of 29c. Took the dogs on the nearby beach earlier, there's no shade. Over 23c I feel sick. I couldn't eat and drink that, I have a hiatus hernia, cannot eat and drink together,it's mostly water at the moment. I've just had an ice cream, don't tell anyone!

Allswellandgood · 30/06/2025 14:03

Always eat lightly on a exceedingly hot day and avoid anything greasy oily or too filling such as a milkshake which has air whipped into it and makes you feel so full all by itself.
Try to rest if you can somewhere where you can keep a little cooler and give yourself some time to digest.

French toast, fruit and syrup plus a milkshake would make me sick on a hot day! It's very stodgy and probably sitting heavy in your stomach.

I think you're dehydrated and need to drink some water. I'm sorry you're nauseous - it's a terrible feeling.

GreenGully · 30/06/2025 14:34

I can't stand the heat either. It must be the Irish in me.
I've spent the day sitting in AC, pissing about on here.

DH and I went for a drive through coffee at lunchtime and the hot latte was a bad idea! It is currently 31 degrees here.

I'll be making a dinner that doesn't require putting the oven on!

It's going to cool down a lot tomorrow.

That's quite a commute for the school run. Were there no schools nearer?

I moved several times due to being i temporary accommodation. The school is the one stability the kids had. I been housed for 3 years now. But I felt it wasn't fair to move them they are in year 5 and 6 n September so the end getting closer.

You took your dogs out in 29 degree heat with no shade on the beach?

While it is hot....

avoid sugary, carb heavy foods and fizzy drinks
stay in the shade
avoid synthetic clothing - wear cotton or linen
slow down. Move slowly
drink plenty of cold water and eat small amounts of fruit and veg.
rest when possible

I’m wondering how many of the people who find the heat unbearable are overweight?

No judgement - genuine question.

You should try having menopausal hot flushes in the middle of a heatwave.

Nope, lost nearly 4 stones and has made no difference whatsoever, I still hate the heat. Some of us just don't like it/ can't tolerate it. I wish I hated the cold,it's totally acceptable to moan about how cold you are. Can you imagine saying to someone who is cold " you really need to bulk up, you'd tolerate it better?"

Can you afford to treat yourself and the DC to a taxi ride home as a one off treat. Most modern cars are air condtioned, and even if it's not you can open the windows.

Nannyfannybanny · 30/06/2025 19:36

I'm not overweight,I'm a size 10,as I've got older I cannot tolerate heat..no I didn't take my dogs out at 29c ,we took them on the beach early,I like to get out at 8 0 clock, they went in the sea.. they were cool, this afternoon we've been sitting in the north facing garden, me under the eucalyptus, one dog in an arch in the shade.

Nannyfannybanny · 30/06/2025 19:43

Meadowfinch, I don't drink any carbonated drinks, rarely have heavy carbs at any time . They don't sit well with me..it's water for the dogs and me.dh bought me the ice cream last night at 9.30, I don't eat after 6, because of the hiatus hernia..so I had it today. I've just been hiding in the shade with a biography.

CurlyhairedAssassin · 30/06/2025 19:54

You chose very sickly carby and fatty foods (when did sweet French toast with syrup and fruit start being a thing - that's an American style breakfast) and the thought of a milkshake (almost a meal in itself) in this heat makes me want to vomit! All curdling in your stomach.....

Stick to easy to digest foods that don't sit heavy on your stomach when it's so hot and you are sweating. AVoid things that are going to send your blood sugar spiking like that food would have. Don't have caffeine - your body is already stressed and hyper enough trying to keep cool, it doesn't need stimulants.

When I have a few days of really hot temperatures I often find my digestion goes a bit wonky, I just think my body is too busy trying to keep me cool, the process of digestion is too much, so I end up with slight diarrhoea sometimes.

Off to have a salmon salad for my dinner. Glass of water with it. No dessert, I'm just far too hot.

Doppe · 30/06/2025 20:02

I’m nearly always cold - it takes a lot of heat for me to actually feel warm - like the last two days in NE England have! I think because my body is so unused to being hot - it just can’t cope! I do everything you should - I stay out of the peak times of sun, if I do go out I wear a hat, high factor sunscreen, light loose clothing. I drink lots of water etc. Still I get sunstroke so easily- then feel sick, headachy, faint, as well as hot! I had to call in sick at work this morning as I felt so ill.

I’m size 10-12 and the heat makes me feel ill. I’m definitely not overweight but don’t tolerate heat well
