What were you doing in 1996?

I went from my 3rd to my 4th year of secondary school. We started having ‘Careers’ lessons which felt quite serious and scary. Which GCSE options to take was a major focus and topic of conversation, which seems so silly and inconsequential now. I’m not sure I can even remember what I plumped for in the end.

The Spice Girls were bloomin’ everywhere, there was no escaping them. Friends and ER were the shows to watch. We got internet for the first time - dial-up which took ages to connect and then hogged the phone line so that there were constant battles over it.

Working in my first graduate job, realising I wasn't cut out for a sales role and then furiously saving to go travelling - left for an 8 month round the world trip in December.

At art school, in love, going out dancing every night, just about to realise my love had ME and wasn’t going to be able to continue on a normal trajectory of starting a life together

Just finished GCSEs, making a bad decision to leave school and go to local sixth form, and getting into night clubs with fake ID.

At uni, living my best 90s life

I was busy being five years old

The year that all my wildest dreams became true. Great salary, working for amazing companies, lots of travelling, moving to another country, met my exh who was wonderful back then. I often woke up, at that time thinking, if I should pinch myself. It was literally like living in a dream.

I was wondering why such a young child was on mumsnet: surely she’s still at primary. Then did the maths…. You’re 27 or 28!!!

Learning to drive, not working hard enough on my A-Levels, partying hard. It was a bloody great year!

I got engaged. Spent the summer working in a pub before my final year in Uni. The 90's were amazing.

Hahahah I know right?! 28 with an almost 8 year old and 6 year old😭. When I think of 1997 I'm like nah that was only 20 years ago... Nope almost 30

Got married

I was working full time and grieving my lovely mum who died far too young.
I was 23 and she was 51 😢

Turned 18, went to university! Great year

Pregnant with my first by the most psychotic abusive ‘man’
