TMI infected toenail

Infected ingrown toenail. red, hot, pus-filled for 2 days. Been doing salt soaks and using Sudocrem, but it’s still painful, tingling, and hard to walk. Toddler keeps stepping on it too. Can a pharmacy help tomorrow, or do I need to wait for the GP on Monday?

Call 111

Salt water foot baths
Take a photo of the toe so you can keep a check on the redness . (If it spreads then you might need A&E depending on your health )
GP- as you;ll likely need a/b if its infected
Podiatrist to get the piece of nail out

Leave off the Sudocream as the saltwater will keep it clean and draw any pus . Sudocream is a bit talc-y

Don;t Google
Don't poke at it .
Don;t go on Sporner Corner
Cry when your toddler steps on it , bless them they are clumsy blighters but they don;t mean it !

Call 111

They always advise A&e and its really not an A&e job as it is

I nicked DS’s with a sterilised scalpel blade to let the pus out, warm salt water soak, antiseptic cream and sent a photo to doctors who prescribed antibiotics without us visiting. But it was midweek not weekend.

I have a lovely story and photo on sporner corner about my infected toe. It wasn’t a toenail at that point as I already had the nail removed. Prior to this it was so painful, I kept having to do the saltwater baths but ultimately I had to go see a podiatrist.

What I would do (and this is only me) is do the saltwater bath and if you can see yellow pus below the skin use a sterile needle to release it, the relief is amazing. Then Monday phone for podiatrist appointment to get it looked at.

Was this on a weekend? Did you go straight there or ring 111 first

I went straight there as I couldn't walk on it as it hurt so much

When your infection has cleared try and get them removed .I paid a podiatrist in the end best money I've ever spent .I was dreaming about them being removed. The relief was amazing.

That’s the plan! Hoping the infection doesn’t take too long to clear
