Can anyone recommend an effective tick prevention collar please or are the 'spot on' type meds the only effective option?

Mine are all wearing Seresto collars. They are one of the few treatments that are supposed to repel ticks as opposed to killing them once they bite.
Cheaper online than from the vets.

Another vote for seresto collars. They're very effective.

. Dont waste money on collars from amazon or pet shops. Get seresto from your vet

Remember if your dog is a swimmer, anything topical will stop working.

@Bransterno - scared of water (fortunately so no worries about damage to aquatic life)
But loves running through long grass, tightly curled coat. In Scotland & ticks bad this year.

I'm Scotland too. I was getting ticks off mine in January when there was snow on the ground!

@SpanielsGalorewould you say it wasn't an especially bad year? I've never known my dog to pick up so many huge ticks as this year.

It's awful. I've never known it be so bad. I got four off my puppy's head the other day. Fortunately I can usually see them crawling on my white dog, so I can pick them off before they attach. And with the added risk of Lyme's disease, I've bought the collars.

Another vote for Seresto, i see you've already purchased. Amazon was the cheapest, pet drugs online do them and pets at home. The ticks are bad this year, even i found one attached to my ankle!! I'm SW Scotland. The tiny deer ticks are little shits!
