I get choked up seeing cars move for an ambulance, anybody else?!

Every time this happens to me I wonder if I am the only one!

Basically as the title says, when an ambulance is moving through traffic with their blue lights and I see people pulling to the side for them, I feel a big wave of emotion. For a few seconds I feel choked up like I'm about to burst into tears!

I very rarely cry and don't have anxiety so it's nothing like that. My only guess is that I feel emotional that the drivers are all pulling together to help the person who's in need of the ambulance.

I'd love to hear whether or not I'm alone! I'd feel stupid asking people in real life.

Haha, I know what you mean. Seeing a school coach does it for me! 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️

MolluscMonday · 28/06/2025 09:04

Haha no, stuff like this gets me too! Everyone in my life thinks i’m mental for it so it might be just us 😂

Eldermileniummam · 28/06/2025 09:04

No I've never thought this but I often think about who it might be for and hope they're okay

NellieShoe · 28/06/2025 09:06

I get choked up knowing that people die because they can’t get an ambulance not because cars move for them.

StrawberryCheesecake8 · 28/06/2025 09:06

I feel like this too! I’ve always hidden it because I thought I was abnormal 😂 I get a lump in my throat and have to fight the tears! Mine may have started as a result of having to get an ambulance for my mum when Ai was a teenager - I felt completely helpless.

Retrospeaker · 28/06/2025 09:06

I don’t get choked up, but I do think to myself it’s one of the last sort of signs that people can cooperate for the sake of another person in trouble. There seems to be so much selfish/self absorbed behaviour nowadays that I do always notice it as a positive thing.

TheAutumnCrow · 28/06/2025 09:06

It’s a sign of humanity in the faceless mass of urban traffic, I suppose. A reminder that in the midst of the choke of machinery and the impatience of mindless structure, there’s a small flame of compassion that survives.

It’s Hope inside Pandora’s Box.

Either that or you need some chocolate and a nice lie down.

Pinkrabitt · 28/06/2025 09:08

I get this too. Instant choking up and tears.

SwedishEdith · 28/06/2025 09:15

Oh, yes, I do this as well. It's quite moving seeing people pull together to do good.

theriseandfallofFranklinSaint · 28/06/2025 09:17

I don't get choked up but like @Retrospeaker it does make me realise that people do actually think of others sometimes (!) Well, with the exception of those people who are so blinkered that they have no idea an ambulance/police car is even behind them...

MrsBennetsPoorNerves · 28/06/2025 09:21

I don't, but I can understand why others do. I get choked up about all sorts of things tbh!

I can't see an ambulance with blue lights without thinking about my lovely mum's last journey before she died. I always find myself thinking about the family members who might be in the ambulance with the patient or following behind, and hoping that their lives are not about to change in an instant.

Sadcafe · 28/06/2025 09:23

Can’t say I do, but get really annoyed at the drivers who make no attempt to move over, it takes long enough for ambulances to get to emergencies these days without further delays caused by irresponsible drivers

alexalisten · 28/06/2025 09:24

Yes iv cried before watching this on more then one occasion. Admittedly it was usually just before my period but still

mangoglow · 28/06/2025 09:25

Not specifically the cars moving but I do feel a bit upset when I see blue lit ambulances in general I have a close family member who has been rushed to hospital in a life threatening situation a few times due to health issues they have and I always think of the person they are on their way to and their families and I say a quick prayer for everyone, the sick, their families and the medical and emergency services trying to help them. I do also get out the way if I am in the way of course.

StasisMom · 28/06/2025 09:26

Yes! And police horses!

Seawolves · 28/06/2025 09:26

Yes because I was once in one with my seizuring, blue 7 year old and it brings back the fear I felt that day. I clearly remember a white transit van that could've slowed to allow the ambulance on to a roundabout but didn't.

BeverleyCleverley · 28/06/2025 09:26

Yes I get that feeling. Normally countered quite quickly by seeing the dickhead in a fast car trying to follow the ambulance and overtake all the cars that pulled in for the ambulance

IAmTheLogLady · 28/06/2025 09:28

Yeah, not this specific situation but similar.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who does this.

ErrolTheDragon · 28/06/2025 09:28

Yes, exactly the same - I’m not a generally overly emotional type but the parting of solid traffic to let an ambulance through can make me well up a bit.

Iamtarticus · 28/06/2025 09:30

I cant go in a shop at Christmas with a Salvation Army band. I sob

JustASmallBear · 28/06/2025 09:31

I don't get choked up, but I do get a feeling in my heart, if that makes sense, and always out loud hope for the best outcome for whoever the ambulance is for.

jamanbutter · 28/06/2025 09:31

I start crying when others are crying. I use to get very frustrated with that as a teen as I wanted to be in control.

OneFineDay13 · 28/06/2025 09:31

Doesn't choke me up but I see kinda what you mean lol

This to im so emotional 🤣

DiscoBeat · 28/06/2025 09:33

I know what you mean. Also on dual carriageways I always pass hearses slowly then speed up a discreet distance afterwards so when I see a line in front of me do the same I feel emotional.
