I was thinking the other day about a storyline I was sure I’d either heard about from a film or a book. It’s giving me Narnia or Harry Potter vibes, but I have no idea if it’s actually from there or from somewhere else entirely.
The gist is: there’s a scene or chapter where a woman is with a kid or a group of kids. She then does something mean - like give them a present - maybe a puppy or a kitten(?) - and take it away. Or she promises them something and then withdraws the promise. At least one of the kids gets upset at this and starts crying. The woman then says she was just testing them to see how much they loved the thing - or puppy or kitten - she was giving them.
