I wondering if anyone able to help me how to proceed. I am quite new to a fairly big national company and we are paid on the 21st of the month.

Due to my start date in April and being unsure of my works monthly cut of date didn’t question April’s wage as presumed/felt correct however I was meant to be paid April/Mays wage last Friday and on Thursday noticed my pay statement was very incorrect, with only a few hundred ££’s due to be paid..

(sorry if that part is confusing!)

Got onto them straight away and long story short have still not been paid. Turns out there has been a mistake with my role and I had been put down as a bank worker when I am actually PT contracted and my hours hadn’t been logged. The hours paid in April and June has been overtime hours (which we do need to log ourselves) so i haven’t actually been paid any of my wages since I have started.

My manager has been fantastic and supported me, and in the 4 working days since my missing wage we have submitted my correct hours twice and have been chasing them up daily but still nothing!

They are very polite on the phone but there is no sense of emergency/urgency and not a firm date to when it’s going to be resolved, first, first it was the start of this week and now saying Friday by the latest but I’ve just got this impending sense that it’s not going to be resolved.

I just don’t understand why this has been treated as an emergency, as in needed fo be resolved straight away. They have said in some cases they can authorise a same day payment but haven’t said this is the case with me so I don’t know if I’m waiting on it going into my bank at a random time of day or I can presume as it didn’t go in overnight tonight that it now won’t be there till tomorrow morning.

Am I being a bit of a princess or am I justified in thinking this is not good enough and if the latter where do I go from here?

I think you need to be very firm with them that the mistake is at their end and you are going to suffer as a result and you need the money in your account.

You are totally justified in seeing this as an urgent issue.

Tell them you’re unable to pay your bills and will be incurring additional costs as a result of this issue. If it’s not resolved today, get in touch with ACAS and get a dispute logged. That tends to accelerate their thinking.

I would go back them clearly explaining that you haven’t been properly paid since you joined the company and they now urgently need to rectify this. Ask them directly to authorise same day payment. Copy your manager in and ask them to support your request. If they still don’t pay you raise a formal grievance. What a bloody nonsense for you to be dealing with this.

Thanks everyone, still nothing, spoke to HR this afternoon and she said, despite being raised as an emergency request it is down to proceed tomorrow to be paid in on Tuesday.

I requested a same day payment and did say I would have to escalate it is noting was done and was told “they would also the question but couldn’t promise anything”
