Would you be concerned (TW)

At pick-up, kids come into the playground in classes and are dismissed by teacher. Sometimes teacher will ask to speak to a parent. Today I overheard (ok, eavesdropped) one of the conversations. The class had been asked to write a scary story and this boy (y4) had written a scary story, with things like blood, a knife, a stabbing, suicide, genocide. The teacher was a bit concerned about the content, but seemed mostly worried that he knew the meanings. As we were walking back, my son asked if I’d heard what the teacher said and told me he knew what all the words meant too. With the exception perhaps of genocide, I’d have thought most kids of nine would know what these words meant, but I’m asking for a reality check on here. I can totally understand why teacher raised it fwiw.

So kids are 8-9? No, I wouldn’t be concerned, if they watch Marvel films they will know about violence even films like The Hulk and Batman show this. What exactly are you concerned about? Kids this age are taught about the war so it’s good they know what the term genocide is. I remember learning about the Victorian’s in year 3, so younger than your child and we learnt about the kids going in the chimneys and some getting stuck and dying aswell as the Irish potato famine, were millions of people died. Maybe don’t eavesdrop in future, none of your business and you may not like what you hear.

With everything going on in the world at the moment, you only have to watch the news. I'm assuming it'll be that.
