I need to prove someone is using a second phone

The ownership of the second phone isn’t in doubt or denied.

The argument is that it “isn’t ever switched on” and is a back up phone.

Ive called the phone twice and it’s rung both times. The owner denies this means it’s switched on. I’ve called it other times and it’s gone straight to voicemail (ie it’s clearly switched off).

If I send a message to WhatsApp and it has two ticks then it is definitely switched on isn’t it?

And read

Does it matter? You don’t trust this person (with good reason by the sounds of it), isn’t that the kiss of death anyway?

yestothat · 25/06/2025 16:42

Who is this person and why do you need to prove it?

if this is your partner and you don’t trust them then you have bigger issues but I can’t see how else it would be your business

@MrsGrowl
Two grey ticks means delivered
Two blue ticks means read
Unless that’s turned off.

Ive called the phone twice and it’s rung both times. The owner denies this means it’s switched on

If you’re dealing with this level of denial then it wouldn’t matter if you caught them paying the phone bill; they still aren’t going to give you the acknowledgment that you’re right and that you know they’re not being honest with you.

So do you really need proof? You’ve satisfied yourself that they’re not being honest about it. What is to be gained by forcing them to admit you were right?

@Stripeyanddotty my head inserted ‘blue’ in the sentence for some reason, I just went and reread -my mistake.

sorry op!

And read

It means it’s delivered, not read.

Two blue ticks means it’s been read.

Time to leave the bastard girl

His phone is on x

Sera1989 · 25/06/2025 17:20

Couldn’t you just ask to look at the phone and see if there are any answered calls or sent messages? I would take the person saying no as an admission of something to hide (I assume this is a partner and you suspect they are using the phone for cheating or something else they’re not supposed to do)

Our BT chap told us that the ringing you get when you call a number is often phony especially if it doesn’t connect, and they put that sound there to ensure you’ve got a good outgoing signal, but that it doesn’t mean that the person you’re phoning has it switched on.
