Would you bother reporting a flasher?

Dropped my 14 yr old Dd at dance tonight, parked up and a man crosses the road, stops directly behind my car, and gets his knob out (I was looking through rear view mirror).

I got out and basically told him to fuck off, which he did, there were a couple of people further up the road, but when I asked, they hadn't seen anything. I then just got on with my day. I didn't consider reporting it until I messaged DH who asked if I had. I have now filled in an online police report, but not sure what they can do really.

But, it got me thinking, if this happened/has happened to you, did you/would you report it?

What’s the point? The police do fuck all with the information.

Yeah, they ‘log it’. 🙄

TizerorFizz · 25/06/2025 16:28

@ChimpanzeeThatMonkeyNews Yes. That’s exactly it. No cctv and the man that assaulted dd cannot be traced. Police not remotely interested. No one can identify him, but I bet the shop staff know him. That’s why they didn’t bat an eyelid or help DD. There was cctv but it was erased. One man in a hoodie is much the same as the innocent man in a hoodie. The police don’t care at all.

Have you seen other posts and the OPs that the police do now take it seriously, have been round the next day and involve victim support?

spiderlight · 25/06/2025 23:33

Yes. I reported one and the police came straight round and drove me round the area in a police car to look for him. Didn't spot him, sadly. They took it very seriously though. Admittedly this was a few years ago but I would always report.

I didn't but I was in a,secluded area and the man was masteurbating, a few feet in front of me I just quickly turned and got back to the main road ASAP.

Had the same. It was on a footpath used by teenagers and mums with babies, a wide variety of people. It was 8 am and the man is standing in the middle of the footpath openly masturbating. There was nobody else around. I shouted something to him along the lines of "you filthy bastard" and I quickly hopped over the low wall and knocked at the fire station that backed onto the path. I told the fireman who answered and he said they would check. I went on my was as the man had disappeared but I didn't think to report it. It was many years ago, I would now.

Yes I would, because this kind of behaviour can escalate and police should be aware of their existance.

Tbf I was more concerned about my own safety at the time as I'm sure you were luckily I was very near some steps thst led to the main road and I about turned very quickly this was also quite a few years ago with the benefit of hindsight I should have reported it but I just wanted to get away .
