Was this a reasonable request? (Vinted)

Bought my daughter some shoes for a cosplay event. They were used and just about £12.

They arrived and theyre suitable but theyre a size bigger than she listed them as.

DD wants to keep them as they are good for her costume but ahe wont be able to wear them long term.

The lady asked if I wanted to return them and she would send a label (so pay for postage i assume)

I asked if she would, instead, refund £3 so i can buy some heel inserts that will keep them on DDs feet for the day then I'll sell on or donate

I think the £3 would probably be cheaper than the postage to return them! But shes gone quiet and not responded since.

Was that not a reasonable solution?

Yes totally reasonable.

DueyCheatemAndHow · 24/06/2025 19:07

Ive done this before but nothing on vinted has a mechanism for this. It's shit for buyers because as you say you have to pay postage.

So I don't think you're unreasonable but she will benefit from the stupid rules.

Elfunke · 24/06/2025 19:11

She admitted she listed them wrong and i provided a photo of the size to vinted.

I don't want to return them and be out of 2 lots of postage and have to look again.

She can use the heel inserts and maybe thick socks just for the event but she wouldnt be able to wear them daily as they are just falling off her feet.

Very frustrating, especially as we saw some perfect shoes in local charity shop for £2 that were this size but we agreed she needed smaller so we didn't get them

It's crap, it means buyers have to pay for return even when it's not as described or faulty. And as you say usually that's not worth it

Ilovemychocolate · 24/06/2025 19:16

Vinted isn’t ebay
It doesn’t allow for a partial refund
So it’s return them or keep them
Seller sounds like she’s been very reasonable in what she’s offered

Ilovemychocolate · 24/06/2025 19:17

If you return them she pays postage and you get full refund inc postage paid

Tomikka · 24/06/2025 19:17

There is mixed information out about Vinted partial refunds
According to Vinted UKs help pages a partial refund can be offered & processed via the not as described process, and according to other resources can only be handled separately such as a PayPal transfer

I would message saying you’ll keep them but leave a bad review.

Sorry but I think that's a ridiculous request. You either want them or you don't.

ViaRia01 · 24/06/2025 19:27

If partial refund is a suggested resolution according to vinted then it is not an unreasonable suggestion by you at all. I guess if the seller doesn’t agree and you don’t get anywhere down that route you could just sell them again on vinted once your daughter has finished with them at the event. They are already in ‘used’ condition so one more day’s wear isn’t going to decrease their value significantly.

MammaDia · 24/06/2025 19:55

I'm not sure. If I had listed a size incorrectly, I would also offer to refund and pay the return postage.

I wouldn't be quibbling over £3 however.

I appreciate everyone has different financial circumstances but I'd just buy the heel inserts and move on. I think Vinted is a bit hit and miss so I'd write it off as a bit of a miss.

Elfunke · 24/06/2025 20:27

She refunded £3, said that was a great idea

Well done op. You can but ask and you got what you needed.

She wants them for one wear. Read the post
