If you've booked an affordable holiday this year

Where on earth are you going? Desperate to have something to look forward to but everything is so expensive. UK or abroad. We have no camping kit or desire to buy right now, which I think rules that out

Define affordable. For someone that make be 10k and others 250£

I may say that my holiday to Spain was affordable but if 2k is put your budget the it's not affordable if you see what I mean

mindutopia · 23/06/2025 18:00

What’s affordable? I just went to Spain for 3 nights and spent £100 on flights, £275 on accommodation and maybe a bit over £100 spending money including transport and all food/meals out. That was for 1 person.

Obviously accommodation cost would be the same for more (holiday flat could have slept 4 at a push). I booked extra bags otherwise my flight would have been about £45 return. I got a taxi one way from the airport which I wouldn’t have done if it hadn’t been midnight. Train was €2.30. I ate out 1 meal a day (lunch), otherwise went to the supermarket and self catered with drinks and snacks on the balcony in the evening. I had to buy presents for the dc, which cost me an extra €25. I don’t drink alcohol and I brought my own drinks and snacks to the beach every day.

It was lovely. It’s all the eating out and the boozing that’s expensive on holiday. Eating olives and jamon on the balcony with a €1 drink from the supermarket and a book is as nice or nicer than spending €15 for the same in a crappy tourist bar.

We went 6 days to London in May/halfterm. It's was fair priced.
In summer we stay at home. Way too expensive to travel.

JohnWickAteMyHamster · 23/06/2025 18:07

We are doing a holiday on the Kent coast. Booked a "cottage" for a week for around £900. We will travel by train and from where we live that's reasonable, it's about an hour by train.

We will then only spend what we would have been spending at home, eg groceries, days out etc.

Our week holiday for the 4 of us will cost a little less than £1000 above what we would spend at home. For us that is just about affordable.

Littletreefrog · 23/06/2025 18:11

If you are bound by school holidays, have a look when they go back. Due to inset days we actually have the full first week of September off school. We have booked a holiday cottage for a quarter of the price of the week before and I know others have done the same for massive savings on Center Parcs etc.

peidhDassffeks · 23/06/2025 18:13

£1800 for French Eurocamp and ferry for family of 4; that’s affordable for us. Obviously not as good as an all inclusive to a resort but kids will love it and it’ll be a break from the norm

Kittkats · 23/06/2025 18:17

Last week of august you can get Eurocamp mobile homes around £500 for the week. Couple with ferry to Calais and drive for £80, or to Brittany around £500, or pick the destination with cheapest flights!

Dairymilkisminging · 23/06/2025 18:23

We are going in October to all hallows Caravan park was £210 for a week. Its fits 8 of us

Very similar to us.

Cottage is £1000 for 10 nights, return trains are £100. We'll probably spend in the region of £700 whilst there (which will include x2 food shops, eating out, ice creams, treats, paid activities etc). So less than £2k all in.

This is for 2 adults, 3 children, in August.

Not cheap but a lot cheaper than our £4.5k holiday to the Canaries (with spends budget of £2k). 14 nights, same time of year, also for 5 of us. This is for next year.

This.

Also, do you mean in school holidays ?

Pickled21 · 23/06/2025 18:48

You've not mentioned your budget or for how many people.

We are a family of 5 and are away to Morocco for a week, first week of July (scottish school holidays). Flights were £700, we have a 3 bed villa in a hotel complex with a private pool for £2100 with breakfast. All in all it will come to £3k. We are taking a £1000 for other meals and spends. We took a similar amount last year and didn't spend anywhere near (last year we were in a different part of Morocco).

PlumpAndCircumstance · 23/06/2025 18:50

We did eurocamp in early June; just the two of us, though the accommodation doesn’t cost more if you fill every bed.

we had a three bedroom static caravan on a lovely site for uunder £300. It cost us just over £200 for return flights for two, and just over £300 for car hire and insurance - under £1000 all in for a week.

This. We’re doing a Eurocamp site in the Netherlands at the end of the summer holidays which will cost about £1500 for accommodation and overnight ferry. I’d definitely look at Eurocamp and driving for an affordable holiday.

Sassybooklover · 23/06/2025 18:59

Two adults and a 14 year old and we've got a late booking to the Greek Island of Zante for a week in August, self-catering. We booked with TUI, and it cost just over £1,400. We will eat breakfast at our apartment but eat out the rest of the time. It really depends on your budget, how many people and when you want to go.

Cynic17 · 23/06/2025 19:04

As everyone has said, define affordable.
But if you are thinking of this summer, you have left it very late, so that will automatically push prices up (even train tickets are much cheaper if you book 3 months in advance).
If you have children, either book for October half term or wait for the early deals for summer 2026.
Otherwise, depending on where you live in the UK, could you just go for a few days away fairly close to home?

Bootlips · 23/06/2025 19:07

4 of us going for 3 weeks to USA. 3 adults 1 child, for pricing purposes. Flying business, 2 different hotels, car rental. We're massive foodies so we've got some lovely restaurants booked. Circa £13k in total

You’d get better answers posting your actual budget.

Overthebow · 23/06/2025 19:15

What’s affordable? We’ve had a week in the UK for £1500 so far and are going to Majorca in the summer holidays for £3.5k, I think that’s affordable but everyone has different budgets.

Shesnotveryself · 23/06/2025 19:19

I've not added a budget because I'm just looking for inspiration rather than making the internet organise my holiday for me. I hadn't considered eurocamps, I also wondered if any UK or international destinations I hadn't considered might pop up. Sadly I won't be going on a £13k holiday (very jealous) but it's all interesting and I may look into some for next year if not possible this summer. I'm not stuck to school holidays.
