The Wimbledon queue

We're going to be in London during the tournament and I was just looking at day tickets. I see people queue (and camp) from the night before, is this for the early rounds also? It would be nice to go to a 2nd or 3rd round match.

We have 2 DC, youngest is 6. We could manage an early morning queue but wouldn't camp over night.

Any advice is appreciated.

It's a long time since I have been, so hopefully someone can add to this. It depends what tickets you want. In the early rounds, you can get general tickets without getting there super early. You can then wander around and view the less high profile matches. Later in the day you can get return tickets for the 'bigger' courts. The people queuing overnight are usually aiming for Centre Court or Court 1 for the high profile matches.

With little ones what I've done the last few years is go late in the day on the second week. You tend to see the mixed doubles/juniors (who are AMAZING) etc so the less "exciting games" but there's never a queue when I've been and my kids dont want to spend more than 2 hours there so it's ideal

As long as you are there before about 9am you will get into the grounds. Gates open at 10:30 iirc. Those who queue overnight are hoping to get on show courts or take up prime spots on the hill or for a particular match on outside courts. The earlier you go in the fortnight the more chance of seeing a top player on an outside court. There is also a resale desk where you can queue for show court tickets as people leave later in the day.

Thanks all, this all sounds more positive than I initially thought.
