Eating apricot kernels

I fancied something sweet, so opened the packet of ameretti biscuits we brought home from Italy. We've already eaten the first packet with no problem.

I looked up the ingredients so I can replicate at home (I can't read the ingredients), as they are so much nicer than any others I've tried - they taste like Disaronno Amaretto.

They are from a huge grocery franchise in Italy; Conad.

I imagined that they were made from ground almonds, but no; they are made with apricot kernels.

Everything I've read online says that apricot kernels are dangerous as they contain cyanide and now ground almonds are substituted, but this clearly isn't the case.

We ate tons of (organic) apricot kernels as children. They taste like almonds to me, slightly softer and less bitterness. Both me and my brothers are alive and well decades later.
Along similar lines, apple seeds are dangerous, ate plenty of apple cores with zero ill effects.
Eat your lovely biscuits and enjoy!
I imagine it is cost cutting or maybe the mass produced biscuits have always replaced almonds with apricot kernels.
