As someone who has been both, I am intrigued to hear what people think!

@PrawnAgain that is accurate - although I guess the slight difference is one is spending money that they have received from family, the other is taking state money -

You could argue that using your privilege to minimise your tax bill which means that others who can't afford to do so have to pay more is also taking from the state.

Fiddling the tax man

There is evasion or avoidance. The taxman prefers neither but one is fiddling the taxman, the other using the law or loopholes to avoid paying the taxman what he/she believes they may be owed.

If he went to a state school he'd have been PM?

You think you worked harder than a nurse doing 12+ hour shifts on a busy A&E ward? Or a single parent doing two jobs? Or a full time carer for a disabled family member who works 24/7? No, hard work doesn’t equate to more money and you’re in the clouds if you think that. That is such a pathetic way to think and yes, you’re massively out of touch with her real world. I’ve been poor and I’ve been very comfortable, so yes, I’m well aware how it works so don’t YOU dare to lecture me on poverty either. The difference between you and I is that I still see those people working their arses off and getting no where and contributing their bit and see those rich folk who work out of everything they can - whereas you seem to have lost your way. Is that everyone? No of course not, but it’s be er unsurprising that you are banging on about people on benefits. Have you seen the statistics between unpaid tax by the wealthy in this country and benefits taken by the poor? Have you? Because the difference is MASSIVE.

So tell us, do you pay anyone working for you above and beyond?? Enough that they can save to be a millionaire? Most rich people haven’t got their though hard work and success so your argument is utter, utter bollocks. You need to educate yourself.

You’re like every other rich little rubber - greedy. If you actually cared about these people in poverty you were on about you would recognise that a lot of people with wealth are greedy, grabby, and fucking over everyone else to keep everything to themselves. They’ve got some great rose tinted glasses on you, I hope they’re worth every penny.

Edited

You have a huge problem with rich people. They aren't some homogeneous mass. Neither are poor people or people in the middle. There will be people working their arses off at every level. People also move between economic levels often. You suggest that you are one of them which makes your contempt of rich people even more strange when you are one of them! It isn't class warfare even though you seem convinced it is.

It is factually true that the people I know that have done well for themselves often took the more difficult option and made sacrifices. They weren't just handed a great career or profitable business. Many people chose a different path and made different choices. You have chosen noble vocations to pretend that all low paid jobs are somehow noble and require an extortionate amount of work but the reality is that most low paid work isn't like that. Lots of people are happy doing relatively untaxing work for sometimes less than FT hours. They may well have a better work life balance and be happier but career prospects and future earnings won't be great. It is an insult and disempowering to pretend that people have no control over their destiny and their choices can't change things. I know first hand that it does.

We need to be very careful about shooting the golden goose. Assuming that individual wealth belongs to the state. It doesn't and people can and will take it with them to more reasonable countries. We need to look after our poor and vulnerable whilst rewarding those that grow the economy and take risks. We need to all prosper together instead of getting bogged down in the politics of envy and assuming that people are different breeds than one another when in reality the vast majority of wealthy families lose their wealth within a few generations.

Ouchy. You know, it was actually quite acceptable to do this according to my many friends that had kids pre MM. Naturally must be spoken about in whispers now.

Hotels and resorts were all about the babysitting services and having a monitor in your table at dinner.

Nope don’t buy it. Dd was born before MM. we never left her alone when on a summer type holiday, we ate early and then sat inside /on the balcony while she slept.

On a ski holiday while in a small chalet she’d be in a bedroom on her own but we were in the same building and used a baby monitor and I locked the bedroom door as i didn’t know the other guests. 🤷‍♀️. And I was a young mum at 23yo but I still had more sense than to leave her out of sight in a different building in an unlocked room.

Not everyone who owns a gun is partaking in a shoot at the weekend 😁

Just thought of another one, sex work. Two of the most upper class people I have met (through travelling) are now both professional sex workers, one on only fans, another through exclusive escorting.
Both chose this work. They could have had other careers and earned six figures easily but wanted the freedom and to travel the world.

But because they pay less tax you have to pay more to make up the shortfall. So you are contributing both to someone on benefits and the posho with the expensive accountant.

There is a very big difference between you being forced to give a perrson money versus someone not giving you money which you feel entitled to but actually belongs to them.

Even though in both cases you end up with less money. They're not the same.
