How do I get my preteen to tell the truth?

I bought DS some Robux as a special treat. He promptly uploaded them to the ‘wrong’ Roblox account, not that we knew he had more than one account. DH is highly techie and offered to help try and move them over to the right account but DS has flatly refused. First, he told us that he would lose 30% of his Robux by doing this and then he said that they weren’t there anymore. We suspect that it is a multi user account where he might be playing/communicating with complete strangers which he is absolutely not allowed to do. DH now suspects he has multi Roblox accounts. Anyway, it seems DS would have uswait for hell to freeze over rather than tell us what is going on here.

Is there any way we could get him to tell us the truth? I have considered bribery, but that doesn’t sit well with me considering he’s apparently ‘lost’ the £20 Robux I’ve just got him.

How old is he?

holachicatita · 21/06/2025 12:11

He doesn't play Roblox again until he is honest with you. And hands over all decives so you can close down any other accounts. I'd take a zero tolerance policy with this one.

marmitegirl01 · 21/06/2025 12:11

Well he just doesn’t have access to it at all until he agrees to allow you to sort it out and delete other accounts. End of.

MemorableTrenchcoat · 21/06/2025 12:11

Are you asking for the formula for truth serum? Kids (and adults) of all ages tell lies to avoid trouble, it’s a fact of life.

PondUnderTrees · 21/06/2025 12:12

Punishment, surely, rather than bribery, if he has expressly broken the safety rules by which you allow him to play Roblox? He is not allowed to game at all for a week, and you will only reinstate Roblox privileges if comes clean and shuts down all the other accounts, including the multi-user one.

Your dh should use his tech skills to keep a better eye on what your child is doing online.

£20 of robux is the least of your worries.

Stripeyanddotty · 21/06/2025 12:12

Your dh tech skills seem a bit crap really.

He’s a pre teen, he doesn’t get to deceive you about his gaming and still get access to the game.

Mama1980 · 21/06/2025 12:34

Simply remove the device, and say he will have no access at all until he tells you what is going on and even then only allow him on it while you are sitting right next to him.

Ah of course it would be the husband's fault somehow!

No, you don't bribe somehow to tell the truth, you remove the Roblox because he clearly can't be trusted
