Vinted issue -How would you have reacted

Hi, just looking for other perspectives. Sorry this is so long. Been on Vinted 18 months. All good experiences, 100% 5 star reviews. I had 2 items to sell. They were snapped up by same buyer, immediately I listed. I knew they were a good price. Was surprised she didn’t bundle to save on postage. She left me borderline abusive negative reviews but refused to return. She found a tiny hole in the seam of one. I was mortified at the horrible reviews. I look after my clothes, I iron before listing, did not notice anything. She called me cheeky and not honest. Why so nasty? I checked out her profile. She was buying..a lot. 90 + items in the last month. Lots of mentions of similar items. She was not selling though ( not under this profile anyway) I think she is buying on Vinted and selling for profit on another site. Select items she can make a good profit on. Even with the tiny ‘hole’ would sell for £20 more. But not registered as Pro Vinted. I noted a few negative reviews, people she had given negative reviews to, responding. I sent her a private message saying please remove your negative reviews, you had the option to return but did not, and I can see you are a business but not registered as Pro, so a bit much calling me not honest! It was a genuine oversight. She responded no she would not and not to contact her again. I saw red. Left two negative reviews, outed her being a business, etc etc. I have now deleted my account as I feel she has ruined my reputation. How would you have reacted? It really upset me. I have been nothing but kind to people on Vinted, saving things until the end of the month for a lady, reposting something for a lady who forgot to collect, selling things really cheaply etc. I really don’t care about her making a profit on my items, or not being registered etc, live and let live and I do not know her circumstances, but think she has lost sight of the fact it’s ordinary non business people on Vinted. Sigh.

Do you overreact this way to everything?

Longhotsummers · 21/06/2025 08:54

There are knobs and chancers on Vinted as there are in life. Fair enough leaving a negative review but the rest is an overreaction.

Thanks for taking the time to reply, do you mean my emotion is an overreaction or that I outed her for being a business is an overreaction?

Your emotion is a massive overreaction.

You can’t please everyone all the time. Some people are just unreasonable.

BardoState · 21/06/2025 09:25

I would feel upset too, OP! Don’t delete your account: reply to her negative reviews on your own page and dismiss them.

bchaslsbfhe123 · 21/06/2025 09:26

I’ve never once checked the reviews of a seller before buying an item.
the reviews would not sway my opinion, ever, so reopen your account sell what you need to and block this person.

not worth the effort yes irs infuriating but some people are just so entitled and will be requesting refunds on everything to make a ‘profit’.

Thelnebriati · 21/06/2025 09:33

Don't try to be assertive with dishonest people, its not worth your time and effort. They ruin everything for the rest of us, they know what they are doing and they don't care, so don't waste any time trying to explain things to them.
Just report her to Vinted for having a private account when she is running a business, and leave a strictly factual reply to her feedback. Block her if Vinted allow that, and move on.

I would probably start doing this if I were you, although I wouldn't take much notice of one random ranting reviewer. I recently saw an item I really wanted but the seller had at least 20 recent reviews of people saying they never sent the item. I was glad I saw this because it saved me wasting my time ordering an item that wouldn't ever be posted and waiting for a refund.

Nana1956 · 21/06/2025 09:47

Thanks everyone. It’s helping me get a bit of perspective.

Actually I would have been upset, too OP. I take a lot of trouble to make sure that the stuff I sell is in really good condition, and I wouldn't take kindly to being lied about on Vinted. I would have reported her too.

Thanks Cillaere, just didn’t understand her attitude.

I mean your emotional response is disproportionate.

ByDreamyMintNewt · 21/06/2025 11:09

I wouldn't have deleted my account. I would have replied under her review explaining the situation, and reported her to vinted. Then block and move on.

I have had one 1* review (which was retaliatory after the seller posted an item marked as new but with baby sick stains and I left them a review) and it hasn't affected people buying off me.

PinkyBear · 21/06/2025 11:12

I’ve had one shit buyer on Vinted who left me a 1 star review. Because she misunderstood the size of the item, despite it being very clearly written in the description & having photos too. So in response to her shitty review, I simply stated this, & also pointed out I’d given her the option to follow Vinted’s returns process. I think that’s all you need to do in future if you get similar - just respond to their poor review factually.
It hasn’t put future buyers off.
I can see why you’re upset, but I wouldn’t have called out the business thing as you don’t definitely know that.

MadamCholetsbonnet · 21/06/2025 11:19

Cancelling your account is an overreaction.

I have all 5 star reviews as a buyer and seller. About 200 reviews.

Then I had this weird one star review from someone after I sold them a BNWOT white cotton broderie anglais top. She left a review saying the top was thin cotton and was yellow in places.

I was gobsmacked and responded calmly saying I was sorry she was disappointed but it was very clear from the photos that this was a thin cotton top (you could see the coat hanger through it) and there absolutely were not any yellow stains (again, as could be seen from the pictures) and the item was completely unworn. However, I would happily refund her.

She didn’t respond so I blocked her so she can’t buy my stuff again. Honestly, it’s not going to affect your sales having one random negative review. Most people buy and sell and will have experience of these nutjobs themselves

Get back on!!!

OneInEight · 21/06/2025 11:41

Occasional negative reviews do not put me off but sometimes irate, over the top responses from sellers to feedback do. We find the best policy is to apologise if a defect has been missed and offer a return.

Thanks Oneineight. That is what I do not understand, she paid immediately, but then left the bad reviews. I did apologise, and say she was still free to raise an issue with Vinted and get a return. I think there were two reasons for this, 1. She knew she could make a profit, and 2. She did not want to draw Vinted’s attention. It was not so much the criticism of my item, but more the personal insults that seemed ridiculous.

If she paid she could not then raise an issue, it was then a completed transaction and vinted would not get involved - an issue has to be raised within 48hours of receiving the item and before completing the transaction.

She probably realised there was an issue after she completed and knew she could not do anything so therefore left you negative feedback as her only option, it is their perogative to leave this and it is unfair sometimes.

Hopefully she will check items more thoroughly in future.

Just reply to her feedback with facts and without emotion.

I always check sellers feedback before buying and if I read feedback that is negative I then sometimes check the feedback of the person who left it as there are always two sides to a story, but one or two negatives would not necessarily put me off buying.

It was a big reaction to delete your account, you could of just blocked her.

Nana1956 · 21/06/2025 13:40

All her negative reviews said the same thing. She paid for the item and then left a negative review. She even said herself in one reply, ‘I paid you, why are you leaving me a negative review’! ( because you are being mean! And you could have sent it back!) As I say, she is buying average 70+ items a month. 90 in this last month. So I think she knows how the system works! Think she has it down to a fine art and gets annoyed if us ordinary sellers slow down her profit margin. Sorry, I am starting to get worked up again! Silly.

Did you offer to pay her return postage?

Doughnut100 · 21/06/2025 15:58

Don't worry, I have had a similar experience. There are a*holes everywhere, you can't avoid them! 99% of my experiences are positive, lots of community spirited stuff, but some people...

Also I think it's just as alarming and upsetting to have a nasty experience with someone online as it is to have one in real life.

If anyone overreacted it was the buyer. Surely? I can see why OP is upset.
