cut hand not sure what to do?

My dc cut his hand at the base of the thumb at 1:45am (as you do!). It's not deep or big but it won't stop bleeding. It bleeds a tiny bit with pressure on, as soon as we take pressure off it starts bleeding again. Not loads but enough that I'm worried it shouldn't still be bleeding so easily/freely after 2 hrs. We've been applying pressure for 15/20 mins at a time.

I called nhs 111 after an hour and am waiting a call back. It doesn't feel a&e worthy but you have to book appts for minor injuries via 111 here so how long do we wait?

Have you got the hand raised in the air and dressed it?

Can you do a dressing that keeps pressure on it without cutting off circulation to his thumb and just leave it on overnight then deal with it tomorrow?

What age is the child?
How did he cut it?
And in the middle of the night?
What is his demeanor?

We haven't dressed it as we've had a cloth pressed up against it and have been checking it, yes to in the air. Should we dress it and leave it? How often should we check? I feel like a right plank not knowing what to do but there's no advice for cuts that won't stop bleeding other than a&e which feels a bit dramatic for the size of it.

I would dress it and leave it until the morning (assuming it stops bleeding again).
I would set myself an alarm to pop in and check every hour to make sure the dressing hadn’t come loose (depending on how heavy the bleeding it when it bleeds).
And sorry, yes, how old is the child? Old enough to not pull at the dressing?

They're fine in themselves. Aged 13. He's caught it on a metal part of the doorframe as he bombed past. I've really no idea how, it's not even sharp although it does stick out a bit. He's autistic and runs everywhere and as for sleep, ha!
