Well yes, exactly this. I used to be a supporter of the dignity in dying movement and then realised what it was actually was a cost-cutting exercise. We have an ageing population who are expensive. Note these bills never include proposials to also improve palliative care. This bill alongside a failing health system is nothing short of a disaster. It was poorly written and proposed impractical 'safeguarding' - as if courts have the time or knowledge of individual cases to be involved. The pressure on patients to not hog beds with their continued living and the fact that health care workers will be forced to comply with an option they may fundamentally disagree with are serious ethical concerns.
You only have to look at how other countries have expanded the initial remit to see where all this is heading. The Canadians model should make anybody pause for thought. Thank God for the HoL. On this and gender madness they've been the voice of reason for the most part.
