I really, really don’t. I have no interest in even going into space never mind travelling to another planet.

If it wasn't prohibitively expensive and awful for the environment, I'd be well up for a blast into space just for a quick nosy. But not moving to Mars or anywhere else. Firstly we have no business taking all our issues to another planet when we haven't sorted our shit out on Earth. Secondly it'll be full of tosspot billionaires who I'd want to avoid in any universe.

TomatoSandwiches · 20/06/2025 20:26

I might be interested if I can go alone and design the flag.... maybe.

Pedallleur · 20/06/2025 20:26

Elton knew in 1972 that Mars ain't the kind of place to raise your kids. In fact it's cold as Hell. And there's no one there to raise them, if you did.
And he was the Rocket man.
Bowie questioned is there life on Mars? and Ziggy (who played guitar) had a band called The Spiders from Mars.

NotDarkGothicMama · 20/06/2025 20:27

No thanks. Taking the longest of long-haul flights to a dark, dusty, barren hellscape where I'd never breathe fresh air again? Sounds awful.

JamesAndTheGiantReach · 20/06/2025 20:29

No not at all. I’d like to volunteer a few though…

I wouldn't say no to a trip up into the upper hemispheres... the one that a few celebs including William Shatner, went on.

On a similar note... can anyone remember years back when WHSmiths sold those experience box things. Stuff like wine tasting, driving a sports car, a spa weekend etc... they actually had one that was a trip into space. It was £100k. I wonder if anyone bought one.

Cleanestpuppy · 20/06/2025 20:32

Now I’m just thinking how much I miss Mars planets 😭😂

RedRiverShore5 · 20/06/2025 20:32

No, I think it's a lot hotter than 30c and I'm struggling a bit today

Cleanestpuppy · 20/06/2025 20:33

I miss Mars delight bars too

Ukholidaysaregreat · 20/06/2025 20:34

N O spells no! 🤣🤣🤣

Apparently it's cold, why did I think it was hot, I don't like the cold either though

notprincehamlet · 20/06/2025 20:39

Only if it was a toss up between Mars and Norfolk

Thisshirtisonfire · 20/06/2025 20:39

I'm obsessed with space but no i don't think anyone wants to live on Mars!!
The point is the research benefits.. the potential to use it as a base to get further into space.. the potential use for mining resources
I really hope a human being walks on mars in my lifetime. I'd find that profoundly moving
People seem so misanthropic at the moment. It seems more likely a person will hope the whole human race dies out than they hope we make headway in solving the mysteries of space.
Where's everyone spirit of adventure?

And personally I think we have a responsibility to explore as the only creatures on this planet with the ability to do so. This planet WILL become uninhabitable eventually, even with the carefulest management... granted in millions or billions of years.. but technically our ability to potentially navigate space may be essential to the survival of all life on earth.
And yet pople call it a waste of time..

And with our populations steadily increasing we do need to tap the resources available to us out there.
The alternative is what? Population control? Pretty horrific. Everyone turning around and suddenly working together in a socialist eco friendly utopia? Unlikely and also ultimately won't save the planet from destruction, will just buy some time
Even just finding a way to move some industry to moon would take much pressure off the earth's economy system

So yes I'd go to Mars.
No one wants to live on Mars I don't think. But going there could help preserve the earth for longer and also help us when it came time to leave far far in the future

Unexpectedlysinglemum · 20/06/2025 20:40

Nope

2dogsandabudgie · 20/06/2025 20:41

Mars One was a project that was going to send humans to live on Mars, never to be able to return. It was supposed to send the first humans this year, unfortunately the Company behind it went bankrupt.

I think there was going to be 40 people in total sent in groups of 4 at certain intervals. All had to pass various stages of assessments and interviews. It would be interesting if anyone on here knew someone who applied to go on the mission.

Emotionalsupporthamster · 20/06/2025 20:41

Nah, I’ll go down with this ship.

TobiasForgesContactLense · 20/06/2025 20:43

Definitely not although DS(9) is quite keen on the idea. I suspect he would go off it though given a lack of YouTube and UberEats.

Thisshirtisonfire · 20/06/2025 20:44

And also just the knowledge that we would gain would be incredible.
It may be that Mars used to have water or still does under the surface. It may have microbes. We could discover either that life on earth in fact originated on Mars OR that microbes there now or life there in the past, developed completely separately... which could mean that life as we understand it is capable of springing up anywhere in the universe that the conditions are right for it... which would mean it's highly likely there are many planets containing life maybe even complex life!!

CtrlAltDlt · 20/06/2025 20:46

Nah. The drinks are good and cold but it's got a lousy atmosphere.

flapjackfairy · 20/06/2025 20:47

is it any cooler than earth ? If it is the way I feel today I might be tempted !

RareGoalsVerge · 20/06/2025 20:49

I'd love to, but it needs to be in range for Ocado or Waitrose deliveries, have a multiplex cinema and be on the general tour circuit when west end shows and major music acts go on tour. I'm not cut out to be one of the first pioneers of the new world.

PissedOffNeighbour22 · 20/06/2025 22:18

No. Can think of a few people I’d like to send there though.

Haha you'd struggle in Wales nevermind Mars 🤣

tobee · 20/06/2025 23:06

Idk why but this question has made me laugh a lot.

My answer is no. I mean, it's so far away isn't it?

PizzaSophiaLoren · 20/06/2025 23:10

I don’t know? How much bang for your buck? What are the schools like?
