What perfectly acceptable but quite annoying things do your neighbours do that annoy you?

What do your neighbours do that is perfectly acceptable behaviour but you find really annoying? As in, if you posted about it in AIBU you would be told that YABU but you still find it annoying?

Neighbours opposite have a campervan. They also have a drive. They do not park on the drive, they park their van outside my house instead. They've just come back from a few days away, parked across their own dropped kerb to empty the van, and then moved it to outside my house.

They're not blocking any drives, there's no restrictions on parking. But still, it's annoying me. I can't even explain why it's annoying me. It just is.

I'm in a HA property on a cul-de-sac.

The neighbour from hell moved out a while ago and since then it has been mainly quiet.

Then my neighbour across the street sadly passed away (at 96 surrounded by family) and all of us wanted her son to take on the tenancy.

That didn't happen but when the HA bod brought a couple round to see the property we all came out from our houses to check them out.

I didn't think anything at the time but it was probably quite intimidating.

Having recently moved from a flat where my downstairs neighbour was a nightmare, constant parties, dodgy people coming and going all hours, arguments and fights most nights, drug taking in the shared garden etc. my new downstairs neighbours are angels, however, they have a BBQ everyday it is hot and the smell is incredible, like the nicest food we have ever smelled, it really puts a downer on our ham salad when we can smell their gorgeous BBQ Grin

Disturbia81 · 21/06/2025 07:23

Just existing.
They are all nice people but I don’t like hearing them go about their business in the garden etc, I feel awkward and can’t properly relax. It also feels awkward that I haven’t laid eyes on them in years but can hear them through the wall

Elandelephant · 21/06/2025 07:28

Ours have a loud ass car that makes me jump every time they start the engine! Loud ass car for attention (why else have a car that loud?) but yet never makes eye contact or says hello! 🤷

Beansandneedles · 21/06/2025 07:43

This thread is making me a tad nervous about our upcoming move. We have incredible next door and end of the garden neighbours at the moment, very little to complain about. I could imagine we could both find things to fuss over (they smoke in the back garden, we have small children who can be loud...for example) but mostly we stand by the fence and have a good chinwag, share cake, invite eachother over for BBQs that sort of thing. Over the road can be a bit funny but they're removed enough that we largely don't bother one another.

DilemmaDelilah · 21/06/2025 09:36

I have lovely, considerate neighbours. They don't allow their children out into the garden to play until 9am at the weekend, and they have three, in a very small house, so I know that is difficult. However once the children are out they are SO noisy! It's normal child noise (plus a squeaky trampoline), but it's a small garden and we are semi-detached so they are very nearly directly under my bedroom window.

They probably hate our NOT wind chimes. We have some metal hogweed, teasels and poppy heads in part of our garden, and I have some ceramic birds hanging from them. I didn't realise they would tinkle in the wind.... but they do. Like wind chimes - but they aren't, as in they were never designed to be wind chimes.

Another one whose neighbours park in the road when they have a perfectly good drive and garage. We did say something and after muttering something about there being no road markings they did start parking one of their cars on their drive rather than in front of our house. They stopped talking to us after we complained. No loss to us, but the amusing thing was that, as soon as they went round moaning to people about us complaining, people from other streets started to park in front of their house. It had never happened before and it drives them nuts. We find it incredibly amusing to see all the cars from random strangers now regularly parked on the road all along their boundary and only their boundary. Me thinks Karma is making a very unsubtle point.

OkimADHD · 16/08/2025 21:27

Smoking weed is a choice I really dont mind but constantly being able to smell and taste it (even when windows are shut) bothers me
Also ruining the grass opposite me by driving across it, so they can park their cars right outside their house ( on a path). I mean i dont use the path but ggrrrr

MolluscMonday · 16/08/2025 21:31

Sits on the bench outside and let their dog run round the small green outside for hours on end rather than walk it properly on the heath 2 mins away. Dog has a really annoying bell on its collar and it drives us all mad!

GrumpyExpat · 16/08/2025 21:42

My neighbor has a large willow tree that blocks a lot of afternoon sun in our garden. She has let me cut branches that overhang our border but not more, or to thin it. I have offered to pay for it all and take the branches away. Nope. She also never cuts our shared hedge or takes care of it. It’s take me years to make it healthy, it was practically dead when we moved in.
We have a driveway but she doesn’t, she and her daughter park in front of ours and her house (we are at the end of a terrace). They have small cars but park just far apart from each other so a third car cannot fit. This has zero effect on me as we park on our drive but annoys me because parking is a problem in our neighborhood and I am 100% convinced they do it on purpose.

redfairy · 17/08/2025 08:08

My neighbours have a Costa coffee delivery every morning. What a waste of money yet I'm still envious. I also disapprove of their weeding technique and want to shout at them 'You need to get the roots up, not wrench the tops off'

squashyhat · 17/08/2025 08:41

My neighbours both sides are lovely and considerate. However one side regularly looks after their son's dog which is the stupidest-looking, yappiest poodle known to man. It can hear if you fart and reacts accordingly. And the other has gravel rocks the size of Brighton beach as a driveway. It doesn't so much crunch as roar when cars drive over it.

LizzyEm · 17/08/2025 08:51

Walk about in the street in front of my house. It makes my dog bark and pisses me off 😂

Gettingbysomehow · 17/08/2025 09:51

They are all good neighbours but one in particular has visitors who always park carelessly so I can't get in and out of my carport without a lot of hassle. There is very little additional parking do it can be annoying.

Arran2024 · 17/08/2025 10:26

We have a bush by our front gate whose leaves are apparently delicious to stick insects.

A woman who lives a few doors away picks them for her stick insects.

She even opens the gate and comes in to get the best ones.

She had never asked us if this is ok. But we had a huge incident years ago when a guy who lives down the road who does small gardening jobs for people on the street - he has some learning disabilities- caught her and started shouting at her and next thing we had a full blown incident on our doorstep as she wanted to call the police and her husband came round to calm her down.

So anyway we ended up agreeing she could take leaves if she wanted. Btw she never acknowledges me in the street.

stringsoup · 17/08/2025 11:07

My neighbours complain about our hedge because would rather look at us 😜

stringsoup · 17/08/2025 11:09

On the other side there is a child that shouts from dawn til dusk 😫

A lot of my neighbours park on the road.

We live on a tiny estate with a very narrow road in and out. There is no parking restrictions but we’ve all got huge driveways and garages which are normally left empty while there are loads of cars on the road.

They're obviously not doing anything illegal but it’s bloody annoying as it makes getting down the road a right pain in the arse and manoeuvring onto our driveway a nightmare. My next door neighbour has to cut across the corner of my front garden to get on his drive as the knobhead across the road is parked on the road in the way.

It’s not like there’s not enough room on their drives, we all have driveways that can fit 4 cars with a bit of careful parking, plus a garage, it’s just inconsiderate and annoying

You must live on my road! I was going to post the exact same thing. Two houses along the road have driveways that can accommodate 4 or 5 cars with a bit of careful parking, but all the cars are abandoned at the side of the road and the sodding drives are empty! The road's like a slalom course and it's a nightmare trying to pull out of my own driveway with all the parked cars blocking the view. Idiots.

Theres a house near me where if I walk past it the dog barks..I can't walk on the other side (where there are no houses) because everyone parks their cars there

These people don't just walk past and move on
Or get out their car and go, it's the fannying about that annoys me.

The actual neighbours aren't too bad, it's tourists that park on our street mostly.

They can see they are distressing the dog but still fuck about outside my house.

Some of them even try to come up to the fence etc or carrying ike they are at the fucking zoo 🙄🙄🙄

I bloody hate this. There are also a couple of people near me whose dogs bark at you if you pass them on the street. I actually once said 'for goodness' sake, I'm just walking past!' to the owner once and he completely blanked me so it's obvious his way of dealing with his mutt's behaviour is to ignore anyone who objects to it.

Once a month there is Lange Samstag, the rules are relaxed so those that work mon-fri can get their jobs done. Also means the shops can open all day.

Samstag is Saturdays, to clarify. Sundays are still a day of not-working.

Rallentanda · 19/08/2025 10:47

My immediate neighbours are so quiet - and lovely. We have a high fence between our properties. Sometimes DH and I sit near it with a glass of wine and chat. Then we hear a rustle from over the fence. I will probably have overshared at some point during the conversation, thinking we were alone. I realise it's up to me to be more discreet but part of me wants Mr NDN to just make a little human noise so we know he's there?

(This is a very nothing complaint!)

My neighbour's yappy dog goes wild when I leave my front door. Getting in or out of the car, doing a bit of 'garden' work (it's just a pavement and a flowerbed under the front window) or chatting to someone.
It must surely be more annoying for the neighbour but maybe not, since she does nothing to stop it. Maybe people get immune to high pitched yapping?
