What perfectly acceptable but quite annoying things do your neighbours do that annoy you?

What do your neighbours do that is perfectly acceptable behaviour but you find really annoying? As in, if you posted about it in AIBU you would be told that YABU but you still find it annoying?

Neighbours opposite have a campervan. They also have a drive. They do not park on the drive, they park their van outside my house instead. They've just come back from a few days away, parked across their own dropped kerb to empty the van, and then moved it to outside my house.

They're not blocking any drives, there's no restrictions on parking. But still, it's annoying me. I can't even explain why it's annoying me. It just is.

One of my neighbours has a son who bangs his ball against the fence. It’s not my fence but it’s so loud! Bang. Bang. Bang. Would never say anything as he’s just playing football in his own garden but after nine years I do wonder when the hell he’s going to grow out of it.

My neighbours are a lovely couple who are both nearly 80. Yet they have soooo much energy, so many friends, phone constantly ringing (loudly), doorbell rings(also loudly), they have their doors open as soon at it hits 16/17 degrees, can’t sit still.
Sometimes I just wish for more inside type people!

Having just read the other thread I'm waiting for someone to come on and say 'hang laundry out as soon as the weather is fair, including shock horror 'smalls'!!' 🤣

A neighbour across the road regularly changes in her bedroom with the curtains open and lights on. Like she'll get a full internet haul and try them all on, no bra or knickers sometimes. No clue if she's unaware or just an exhibitionist. Have really considered telling her but we've not had a positive chat in the last 8 years so I want to avoid making it worse. We just close our own curtains and get on with it! Maybe I could send an anonymous note 🤔 though I feel like she'd know it was me even then.

  1. immediate neighbour is another who prefers parking on the street to her drive. Plus she has two cars and I have no idea why (she lives alone)
  2. the yappy dog people. They let it out into the garden for a good long yap at 11.30 pm every night.

Elderly neighbour sort of shrieks when he steps on his dog in the garden.

Makes me bloody jump. Bless him 🤣

Laiste · 20/06/2025 13:56

Dogs always fine by the way! Well fed spoiled and happy 😊

Edited

How often does he stand on his poor dog? 😂

Laiste · 20/06/2025 13:59

Couple of times a week ....

(shouldn't laugh)(he adores his dog)

Laiste · 20/06/2025 14:02

I know what's happening as it's always followed with 'Ohhh Ohhh sorry! Sorry Bob i've trodden on you again'

I picture Bob just rolling his eyes ...

FullOfLemons · 20/06/2025 14:02

Smoking

I know they have every right to, but I do find the smell disgusting

My neighbours built a sauna at the end of their garden. Now I inadvertently make eye contact with them in my kitchen, while I know they are sitting there starkers. Thankfully the sauna window is only head height, but I still find it weird.

Elle771 · 20/06/2025 14:06

Engage me in really long conversations whenever (it feels like!) I have loads of food shopping/frozen stuff to get inside the house 😅🙈

IToldYouSoSee · 20/06/2025 14:08

Performance parenting - the Dad is LOUD and it’s like being at a live sport event when he plays with their kid. Also, despite us both having huge gardens mid-century semis) they’ve plonked the obligatory trampoline exactly next to our patio.

BeyondMyWits · 20/06/2025 14:08

I have the most lovely neighbours. All in their 80s. They fetch my wheely bin back in, across my front garden and down the drive on bin day if I'm out. Which is wonderful, well meaning and very kind of them.

However... a cat from across the road sometimes poops in my front garden. Invariably, they will find it with a wheely bin wheel, so instead of me picking the poop and wheeling my own bin cleanly down the drive- I get to come home to dried on poop on the wheel, the path and the driveway.
I love them dearly and would never say anything, but eurghhhhhh.

Neighbour about 10 doors away has such a loud phone ringtone that I can hear it from mine. I have no idea how it is so loud..

New neighbours have just moved in. They smoke outside the front door at midnight and he coughs his guts up under my bedroom window. Fuck off into your back garden like a normal person.

The kids play football outside the houses which is fine when they are small kids but half of them are 13-15yo now and booting a leather ball as hard as they can and it's whacking windows and cars all the time. They can't go up to the playing field (a 2min walk) as one 13yos mum won't let him go "that far" without her. 🙄

olderbutwiser · 20/06/2025 14:10

Asks me questions about gardening every single time we are both in the garden at the same time. She's a beginner, I'm experienced, she is totally lovely and has managed to cure her other half of hoarding, they are both very sweet and quiet etc. But every single time it's "Older, what is this plant/should I cut that back/I cut small root on this indestructible plant will it die immediately".

Better than the other side though who let their bindweed/nettles/brambles run wild and creep into my garden.

muddyford · 20/06/2025 14:13

When I visited my family a while ago the neighbours were having some building work done. Asked me to move my car, parked on the road outside our house. Told them to ask neighbour to move hers, parked outside her house, instead. Apparently she wouldn't.

Springersrock · 20/06/2025 14:14

A lot of my neighbours park on the road.

We live on a tiny estate with a very narrow road in and out. There is no parking restrictions but we’ve all got huge driveways and garages which are normally left empty while there are loads of cars on the road.

They're obviously not doing anything illegal but it’s bloody annoying as it makes getting down the road a right pain in the arse and manoeuvring onto our driveway a nightmare. My next door neighbour has to cut across the corner of my front garden to get on his drive as the knobhead across the road is parked on the road in the way.

It’s not like there’s not enough room on their drives, we all have driveways that can fit 4 cars with a bit of careful parking, plus a garage, it’s just inconsiderate and annoying

Gettingbysomehow · 20/06/2025 14:15

Smoke constantly and it all comes through and stinks my house out.

RabbitsRock · 20/06/2025 14:18

Immediate neighbours’ dog is about 5 but they still insist on playing with a squeaky toy that’s meant for a puppy (I think) & it drives me mad! A neighbour further up the cul de sac revs his motorbike for ages which I just don’t get the point of, although that’s not really acceptable behaviour.

Gabiabbi · 20/06/2025 14:20

Mine bounce the basketball for HOURS on end. It's honestly like chinese torture. Just because something's legal, doesnt mean it's ok to do it imo. They've also put their trampoline at the back of their garden, where it's higher. So when they stand on it they look right over my fence that I had installed specifically to block them out. I haven't used my garden in years as a result.

purplecorkheart · 20/06/2025 14:22

They wash their car everytime they use it. They ignore the hose pipe bands etc.

the80sweregreat · 20/06/2025 14:22

They have a much nicer garden than ours and out in it day and night. I’m jealous of the garden as ours isn’t as nice or as big.
Our neighbours are quite though which is lovely.
Nearest dog is doors away and well behaved.

Teenagequeenwithaloadedgun · 20/06/2025 14:26

Uses us as a parcel repository but never returns the favour. Parks slightly too far down the road making it more difficult to get out of my driveway.

If we accept a parcel delivery for her, she wants it the second she gets back. Has resorted to trying to jump over our fence if we aren't in or standing outside the house dressed like the grim reaper in a black raincoat with a pointy hood.
