What perfectly acceptable but quite annoying things do your neighbours do that annoy you?

What do your neighbours do that is perfectly acceptable behaviour but you find really annoying? As in, if you posted about it in AIBU you would be told that YABU but you still find it annoying?

Neighbours opposite have a campervan. They also have a drive. They do not park on the drive, they park their van outside my house instead. They've just come back from a few days away, parked across their own dropped kerb to empty the van, and then moved it to outside my house.

They're not blocking any drives, there's no restrictions on parking. But still, it's annoying me. I can't even explain why it's annoying me. It just is.

Houses with open plan driveways, but a clear "boundary" marked by a metal rain gully, which is on our property. NDN parks so close to the boundary that he can't get out of his vehicle without walking on our drive. He has space for 4 cars side by side, he could easily park a meter or so further over, but still does this every day. Drives me potty!!!!!

Sitting in their own garden. BEFORE anyone tells me how ridiculous this is; we don’t have a fence between us. Our houses are built into a hill and we have shared access steps at the back to the apparently council owned ‘private road’.Unlike some people on here I am not the type of person who freaks out opening my own front door etc but on occasion I prefer it when they just aren’t there!

TigerRag · 20/06/2025 16:04

I live in a flat. The lady opposite me smokes. Hate being greeted by a waft of smoke when I open my door

She has friends around in the evening who can be a bit loud. She has told me that if she does make too much noise to put a note through her door. But it sounds a bit petty

KPPlumbing · 20/06/2025 16:05

Our neighbour potters up and down the drive, and up and down the back garden ALL. FUCKING. DAY. AND. ALL. FUCKING. NIGHT.

If I pop out for 5 seconds at 6am, or 11pm, to clean up after our dog, he's out there fucking about with his dustbin or fetching something from his shed.

Our gardens are tiered, so he has a clear view into our garden, and he's s nosey bugger.

If I want to fetch something from my car, heaven forbid I get to do it without him also being out there, unloading and reloading pointless shit into his car, or making it a full time job to load his small dog into the car to take it for a walk.

There's no second of the day where I feel I have proper privacy.

HungreeHipp0 · 20/06/2025 16:08

Leave their food & garden waste bins out on the street for 2 weeks because they missed the last collection. They're right next to our driveway and are absolutely stinking in this heat. Counting down till Sunday when they will hopefully be emptied.

Sneeze really loudly. No need to shout when you sneeze, come on.

I’m sorry if it’s me …. But honest I just can’t help it…. It surprises me too 😂

JackdawCrow · 20/06/2025 16:17

Sex work, nude sunbathing, loud sex, naked massage in the garden. According to the law these are acceptable...

cannotbetoobot · 20/06/2025 16:22

Crappy off road parking using up 2 potential parking spaces !

Zov · 20/06/2025 16:23

Similar issue to you @LittleAlexHornesPocket 2 neighbours opposite keep parking their vehicles on the road - opposite my driveway! One has 2 car drive, and the other has a 4 car one, yet they park their pissing vehicles on the road half the time. Does my head in! As I speak, my one neighbour opposite is parked directly opposite my driveway. (Been there since 3pm yesterday!) So it's hard for me to get out, AND to get in. The other neighbour parks a big blue van on the road half the week! Sometimes the adult DD's car too!

Basically, it's easier for them to just pop it on the road, coz it takes an extra 8-10 seconds to get it onto their driveway! Hmm So they're basically making their own lives easier, and making mine and DH's harder. We have tried parking our car on the road before to try and 'prove a point,' but they still put their bastard vehicles on the road anyway, and the gap is so small that the traffic can barely get through! They simply do not care! We get paranoid that our car is going to get hit. They don't care because the cars they put on the road are is 12-15 years old, and the blue van is a work one! Our car is only 5 years old and is our only form of transport. Both neighbours have more than one vehicle! We only have the one.

I also have a neighbour (woman who lives on her own, similar age to me, 60-ish, her garden meets the back of ours... Both gardens are about 40 feet long.) When she sees us, she has a fucking opinion on everything. Always has a comment on our garden, and throws unwarranted opinions at us about what we should be doing with it. Like she said we should taper this particular hedge and not have it straight up/squareish, and we should 'mix the colours of the flowers more.' And she said we should have put our mini shed further across by 6 feet or so. (Even though where we have it has ZERO effect on her.) All sorts of shit like this. She also suggests DH should be walking to work on a 'nice day.' - It's 4.5 miles, and he is in his early 60s! Confused

Like WTF has it got to do with her?! I don't see her walking ANYwhere. She even drives to the little shop down the road that is 7 minutes walk! She is an annoying woman, truly! We have hardly anything to do with her, (genuinely find her annoying!) but she seems to think she can throw her boring unwanted opinions at us. Maybe she's lonely or bored and is just trying to engage in conversation, but she needs to work on her conversational skills, because she's patronising, rude, and condescending.

AgnesX · 20/06/2025 16:23

Mine are all incapable of closing a door quietly even if their lives depended on it Halfwits all of them.

genesis92 · 20/06/2025 16:33

Have their French doors open all day as soon as its
not raining and play the radio from their kitchen. They’re not playing music from the garden but I can hear it in my garden as if it is. They do this all day and into the evening. I really would like some silence just occasionally.

FantasticButtocks · 20/06/2025 16:35

Cosycover · 20/06/2025 15:32

You have described my street perfectly, hi neighbour 😄

Ha ha! Are you in a seaside town?

Whereland · 20/06/2025 16:35

The same thing, parking on the road nstead of their driveway! This seems to be common, can anyone explain why?!

rosemarble · 20/06/2025 16:37

Her cats that scare the garden birds away.
The cats that mean I can't leave my backdoor or downstairs windows open otherwise it comes in. I don't want a cat knocking things off my window sill into the sink.

amooseymoomum · 20/06/2025 16:37

On the one side is a house where a batshit woman used to live. She was ok if she did not see you, but when she did, she would spit venom at you for no reason! She always left her door open, and her flaming dog used to wander around shitting on everyone's lawn. Then she would have a go, saying it was your dog crapping everywhere. hardest when we had just lost our dog and had just collected her ashes. Then she said the crap on the lawn was from our dog. My partner was disgusted she was still yelling when we showed her the ashes, barmy.
Then the new people ripped up the front lawn and gravel everywhere. Instead of walking on the path at all times of day and night, they crunch over the gravel. It's so annoying.
She has a mouth on her. Even with all windows shut, we can hear every word when she is on the phone. She does not need one!
They have been there 2 years, and every night around 9, he starts banging loudly with a hammer. I am sure he is demolishing the house slowly!

Luanaa · 20/06/2025 16:43

Knocked on our door once asking us to kindly not parking in ‘their parking space’. ‘Their parking space’ being an unrestricted space on the public road (outside their house) where anybody can legally park. I carried on parking there if it was a free spot, just because I can.

MsNevermore · 20/06/2025 16:46

We live in an extremely hot climate with very low humidity. It’s been 40°C and higher for the past few weeks and will only get hotter between now and late August.
We are here temporarily, so are renting. We have a small, above ground pool in our garden which is fine……but our next door neighbours have the most beautifully landscaped garden with in-ground pool. We see the pool maintenance guy there regularly keeping on top of the pool care - which isn’t cheap.
In the few years we’ve lived here, I’ve never seen a single person use the pool 🫠🫠
It annoys me beyond belief because I’m insanely jealous of their beautiful, in-ground pool 🤷🏻‍♀️😂 If we had that pool, my kids would never be out of it!

3678194b · 20/06/2025 16:47

Mine are annoying because they never really go out, I think curtain twitching is their main purpose to life.

They are both retired, both have cars, rarely go on holiday, in good health, comfortably off, but never go for a dinner out or day trip. If they go out it's for a short walk or to the shops, back within the hour.

Not really annoying or affecting me per se, but damn, they are boring hermits and must get on each other's nerves being around the house and with eachother 24/7!

SpottedDonkey · 20/06/2025 16:51

Obsessive, OCD car washing. Our neighbour is a lovely chap. We couldn’t wish to live next to anyone nicer.

BUT…

Every single weekend he spends endless hours on his driveway washing his car, polishing it, hoovering it etc etc. The thing looks clean to my eye before he starts, but being white it shows every particle of dirt and every single millimetre of it has to be lovingly ‘detailed’ as he puts it. Every time we go out or come home he’s there outside cleaning his car. It’s annoying because he’s just there all the bloody time.

Arran2024 · 20/06/2025 16:52

Have cats. Which use our garden as an extension of theirs. They leave little piles of poo in the front garden and drive our dogs insane in the back by sitting on their shed and peering down at them from their safe perch.

Nearly50omg · 20/06/2025 16:54

Start parking on their drive 😁

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 20/06/2025 16:58

It's threads like this that make me want to go round to my neighbours both sides and hug them and beg them never ever to move away...

LittleAlexHornesPocket · 20/06/2025 13:34

You would hate it where I live. Without fail, the moment it stops raining, someone somewhere close by is using a lawnmower, strimmer, hedge trimmer or pressure washer.

I think it's Germany where they have a law about not being able to make loud noise on a Sunday afternoon. I wish we had something similar!

We do its 1pm cut off on Sundays for making loud noises even garden type noise like lawnmowers strimmers leaf blowers etc
contact council and they will reach out to them. 1st offence is letting them know the times they can and cant then further offences are dealt with by noise abatement order. Happened to my neighbour

JDM625 · 20/06/2025 17:08

Recently renovated a derelict property and lived in a static caravan on the front drive.
Neighbours get up with the sun and bang out their food waste into the larger bin every morning at 5am! Their bin happens to be 1m away on the other side of the fence from my head in bed.

On bin night, at 11:30pm on the dot, the husband wheels the bin out, along all the cobbles and wakes us up- despite me using ear plugs in bed.

We live inside the house now, so not an issue, but I was ready to strangle them at times.
